I've tried..God know I have, but I can't find a pet shop to supply me with a large enough cage for the boys...so I'm thinking strongly about just making one of my own.

Sorry if I sound a bit thick but I really don't know much about C&C cages (except that from your photos I have seen on this site that the look big and fab!)

So, how would I go about making it?
Where would I get the plastic and those cube grids & grips? would I get them in Ikea or in B&Q or even Homebase (*** I'm over here in Dublin!)

How large would it need to be for my two? (but bear in mind and knowing me I may just get an another piggie in the future :))

Any feedback would be really great...THANKS XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hi

The cheapest grids you get from ebay. They come in packs of 16-17 grids, but you may need some cable ties, as you will be probably a bit short on connectors. there are quite a few people selling those on ebay, but postage does vary quite a lot. You get about a 2x4 grid cage with a mezzanine floor or a maximum 2x6 or 3x5 grid setup out of one pack. One grid is about 35cm or 14 in.

The correx you can obtain from local signmakers from the yellow pages. You will need a Stanley knife to cut it. 3mm thick will do for one that is supported. Prices vary and you have to do some ringing around.

Have you been to guineapigcages.com?

They have full instructions on how to build them and what kind of ones to build. Plenty of ideas anyway and worth a look.

It's american so they call correx coroplast.

Trust me I have redone mine about 4 or 5 times while my piggy family have expanded, make it as large as you can manage from the start.

Ring around local signmakers, get a few prices as they do vary and bear in mind you have to be able to get a HUGE piece of correx home. My husband has a picasso and we have managed to get a huge piece in there.

Need any further help give me a shout. :)

Hey! I got my correx from http://www.theonestopplasticsshop.c...p-4980.html?osCsid=4b7cvdud9dac1nvj6hobhth6c4 and i got 2 peices a blue and a red :)
theres also http://www.teacratepackaging.co.uk/correx-board-p-88.html and http://www.thevanliners.co.uk/correx-sheets-10-x-5-p-240.html?zenid=agigcih6m3a76knfothdl1jh22 for correx. And i got this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-CUBE-MESH-G...dZViewItemQQptZUK_Storage?hash=item3ca3162ccc which is good :) and if you need a few extra grids or conectors for example this is a good site http://www.caranco.co.uk/acatalog/Chrome_plated__Mesh_Cube_System.html however if you need alot of extra ones your probbaly better getting another set of the first link i gave you. Hope this helps!
Oh and these are quite cheap :P however I'm still waiting for them in th epost as i only bought them the other day, will let you know how they turn out when they arrive.
them xx

I wish to make one too =] I've been wanting for ages but only could find the american website. How many roughly do you think someone would need to make a decent big cage for 2 guinea pigs? Grids and size of card? x

you would probably need grids in a 4x2 setup. (4 grids in lenth and 2 grids wide) which is what I'm doing :) so thats 10 grids. Depending on if you want to add another floor on top of that which is up to you youd need more obv :) I'm going to do a 2x2 top floor aswell so thats an extra 11 grids and possibly 2 more grids for making the ramp....so altogether 23 grids for me hehe.

You get 17 C&C grids in one pack. the grids are roughly 35 cm square.

For a 2x4 (70 x 140cm or 28in x 56in) grid set-up, you need 12 grids - which leaves you with extra, in case you need to separate or want to construct a mezzanine floor.

With seventeen grids, you can go up to a 3x5 grid cage, if you have the space. But you will need to have the necessary correx delivered to your home, as you won't be able to fit it in a normal car!

This is how I made my C&C CAGE http://www.guineapigcages.com/howtoprint.htm

ITS A STEP BY STEP GUIDE - FOOL PROOF. Trust me, I did it, its simple.

It tells you how many grids you need for whatever size.
It tells you how big to get the correx.
Any sign writer will sell you correx. Look in the phone book, theres loads listed and your bound to find somewhere local. I have a picasso car and I got in a massivve sheet, 8ft length which is the biggest size my sign writer did for £15.00, it does bend alittle to fit in the car. You can ask your supplier to cut it the size you want too.
Correx is plastic corrigated similar to the corrigated cardboard construction and has so many uses. I lined the rabbit house with it.
Good luck, and photos afterwards please

If you have a costco nearby they sell packs of grids really cheap £8.01 for one pack and that's with the vat! I got mine from there and will be making my c&c cage in the new year.

Also i thought it would be hard to get correx and i looked on the internet on yellow pages and typed in sign-makers and emailed a few companies and ALL of them stocked correx and the best price was £12 for 8ft by 4ft sheet. So i shall be getting that in the new year.

:)
