I accidentally cut Penny’s quick while clipping her nails :( I set her in the playpen with a pee pad down to see if there was any blood. She was in there for about 15 min with only a tiny speck of blood. I put her back in and this is what her nail looks like (first one on left). Will she be fine? It didn’t look like she was bleeding in the playpen7129C71F-B3D5-4A0A-882A-3E79F4F6B1CC.webp

Hi!

Please take a deep breath! You have just nicked it at the very tip. if you wish, you can give it a wipe with a mild antiseptic like homemade saline solution (stir one teaspoon of salt into 1/2 pint or 250 ml of boiled water and let cool) but otherwise don't worry about it.

Catching the quick is not at all uncommon; it happens to all of us at some point. If it is a bad cut, see a vet as an emergency if the bleeding doesn't stop within 10-15 minutes (so far, that has happened only once in all the years on here). Otherwise just disinfect gently once the bleeding has stopped for a little time and then leave the foot be. The nail will usually grow back if a bit thicker.
