I have decided to go for it and make a C&C cage for McMac (but shh mum doesn't know yet) I have found enough C&C cubes for a good price and when I next get paid I am gonna buy them :D
I am hoping to find some cheap coroplast at B&Q, what thickness would I need and how high should I make the skirting wall thingies?
And what are your set ups like? What layers of bedding do you use? I was thinking of buying a bulk of puppy pads or something then some cheap towels and fleece. Is that a good bedding plan or do you find something else better?
It is my first time owning a C&C cage so any advice would help a lot :) Thanks x

Walls : someone told me average is 6cm but with fleece you can do 4 without worrying about it being flicked out,
Puppy pads end up being expensive, i prefer just newspaper towel then fleece :)

I think you may mean 6 inches, not cm? rolleyes
6 cm would be a bit low, as they do like to chuck their poops out the cage lol :))

6 inch high sides and the correx needs to be 4mm
(2mm correx is a bit too flimsy)
HTH :)

6 inches high and 4mm thick :) alrighty then.
Does newspaper work just as good? It probably would be a lot cheaper now I think about it lol
Is it true you have to wash your fleece a few times for it to become properly absorbent? :S

Wash 3 times, i didn't dry mine in-between but some people do.
and yeah i did mean inches sorry :')
Newspaper i'd say is easier, as i get a free newspaper so just use that, cost effective and recycling!

I have 2mm correx and it's ok! I may replace it sooner than some but I've had it since about july and it's all good. :)
I already had a large fleece blanket and some old towels that i wasnt using which was how I got into trying fleece out and i got more from b&m bargains. I got the towels for about £1.49 each and the fleeces anything from £3-£5 :)
You can also get fleece in asda for about £2.79 but not as large and they do towels in the smart price range too. Any sort of cheapy shop that may have bedding is worth a peep as well as ebay and local markets.

Ok wash 3 times without softener? Ok :)
Yeah I will have a look around Ebay, Poundland and Asda for chea bargains :)
I like the look of Dunelm mill fleeces but I can't remember how much they are :S

Oh and how do I work out how much correx I need to buy? For example if I was going to do a 2ft by 6ft cage how much correx would I ask for :S

For 6 inch walls you need to add a foot to each dimension, so for 2x6 you would need 3' x 7' correx. Correx comes in fixed size pieces, the 2 mm stuff comes in 4' x 8' sheets ( I used 2mm and it's ok but you have to be really careful not to cut right through when scoring!). From what I've seen on eBay the 4mm seems to come in smaller sheets.

A foot on each length so that there is enough room for 6 inches each side. Thanks :) I was having trouble working out how much I would need and was worried I would get the wrong size :L

Is it easy enough to fold correx or something without damaging it? Incase it can't fit in the car you see lol

I just use news paper under my fleece but have an area of hay where they tend to use as a litter tray area. The news paper soaks up the little bit of wee they do do on the fleece so i dont feel the need for towels underneath.

Oh so would you suggest just fleece and newspaper? Would just a couple of layers of newspaper be enough? I was going to try that whole 'kitchen area' type thing with litter trays and water bottles, hay racks and food bowls within the litter tray space so hopefully that should help with cleaning :)

Eeeek I'm so excited :D

I had mine delivered to the house, it was rolled up into a big tube and stuck in a box.

Yeah I find it helps a lot with cleaning. It may take a while for him to start using the litter area. My new girl took a month before learning the fleece is not where you wee :)) But my older girls got the hang of it straight away when they were first moved to their C & C.

I have two separate C&C cages, which are lined with newspaper, then fleece. Actually they are the grocery ads I never read that end up in my mailbox every week. I generally use the newspaper two-three thick in places I know they will go (outside of the many litter pans) and it forces me to clean it more often than I would if I had something more absorbent, if that makes sense. Here is a pic of my boys Nigel and his dad Mr Hazel during the last clean.

So a few sheets thick will help keep things try on the fleece? Sounds better then towels actually. I don't know how my mum would react to having a load of towels that need cleaning each week :... lol

Yeah I have bought him a litter tray and hopefully he will learn that I will keep his food bowl and hay rack ect in there so he will do most of his business in the tray. I wont mind if he does poops outside because those can be cleaned up but its the wee's that I worry about :))

oooooooh McMac is going to love a C&C house

Yes I am finally going to make one :D Mum doesn't quite know yet but I am sure she wont mind too much :(|) I have just gotten so sick of his little store cage. You probably saw how small it was in the video :/ It makes me feel bad that he has to live in it. So I might try to make a 2x5. Dunno what he will make if it though, all that new space :))

One sheet would be plenty if you are doing anything like a 4 x 2 or 5 x 2 cage, you can tape two pieces together anyway, I used the clear all weather waterproof tape from Wickes, it's about £6 a roll. I bought 2 pieces of correx as delivery was the same or similar anyway & have kept one as a spare just in case.

Yes I am sure they do, shipping is £7.50 for one or two pieces so if you want to keep a spare piece it's better value to get two :)
