Mine do that. Either when they want to get off, or because they want to eat. Generally I give them some readigrass in a bowl on my lap. Piggies need to eat a lot of the time, after all.

My guinea pig does it when she thinks she's getting food or wants food. I liken it to licking her lips. She did it for the first time on my lap too, after a long session of about 30 minutes. I very nearly would have starved her to death if she hadn't told me! It only took a couple of weeks for her to realise that she could get a treat from me every time she chatters. Clever piggy. She makes the noise to her guinea friends as well though, but sadly none of them have ever gone to the fridge to get her a piece of cucumber.
