one of my guinea pigs has been acting really strange. he slinks when he walks, and smells stronger. the worst part is that he keeps picking fights with one of his brothers, and is REALLY aggressive.
please help!

How many boars do you have living together? What are their ages and what size cage are they in?
You can really only keep a pair of boars together. If you say he is picking on one of his brothers it sounds like there are more than 2 living together.

How old is he? Slinking (rumblestrutting) and smelling is classic dominance and scent marking.
How Many other males does he live with? Boars do better in pairs, so if you have three together and aggression is occurring, then separation is likely to be needed.

@futurefame I am sure we have already advised you about keeping more than 2 boars together and you have previously posted about a boar with a torn ear. I think you need to separate if you have boars who are fighting.

there are three, bonded and have been fine for the year i have owned them. their playpen is 2.4x1.2 and outdoors. could it be the heat? they are between 2 and 3 years (i do not know, they are rescues)

i have asked my parents, who both had guinea pigs, and think that if they get separated, it might be bad in the long term

as I have said above, it’s the fact there are 3 of them. 3 boars very rarely works out no matter how much you want it to. You’ve had a torn ear and now you are describing clear signs of aggression. If he is picking fights then he needs to be removed from the other 2. The solo one can then find a companion of his own.

I wouldn’t think it’s the heat, I would say it’s a problem with keeping three - dominance and the relationship changing. You sound like you’ve been lucky until now but boars, generally speaking, as a trio fail at some point or another.
If there is aggression and fighting, then separate them. It’s not worth the risk of serious injuries and entire bond breakdown - you could end up with three single piggies if it all goes horribly wrong.

Bad how? Keeping a potentially dysfunctional trio of boars together is bad - risk of real fall outs and fights. Separating and ensuring you can keep a functioning pair is good. The single can live alongside for company and if there is then the potential to find him his own new friend.
