Hutch weatherproofing

Hi all! So this is my first winter with piggies and am wondering if anyone paints their outdoor hutch in a weather resistant paint? We have a rain cover on the hutch but am wondering if that's enough to protect the wood?

I personally don’t have a hutch, but most of my friends do weather proof their rabbit hutches with paint etc. I think it just generally helps the wood last longer, be careful what paint you choose though as some are toxic to piggies.
