Hello
We are thinking of getting our daughters some guinea pigs as pets. I owned guinea pigs before we had children so understand how to look after them.

We want an outdoor hutch but just wondered how big it would need to be does anyone have any recommendations?

You can have a two tier hutch but as ground roaming creatures guinea pigs need their cage to meet the size requirement on the bottom level. Upper levels only count as bonus spaces and don’t double their available floor space. Some piggies will flat refuse to use ramps, others will learn to use them and the rest are absolutely fine with ramps from day 1! The important thing if you do have a two storey is the ramp isn’t steep and that it has sides

Hi there, just seen your message and wanted to reply as I've just moved my indoor piggies outside for the first time. I've found that with the ramp if you get yourself a ramp tube they will use the ramp much more happily, both of mine are zooming up and down the tube like they've been using it for years! I got mine from C and E cozies online, it even has velcro straps so you can secure the tube to the ramp. I've found it also lessens the likelihood of my piggies falling down the ramp hole too as the tube just sticks out the top so it's easy for them to see. I'd just make sure you insulate the hutch really well too, and get them a snugglesafe each to keep them nice and cosy during the night. Mine are doing really well outdoors now even though the weather has been pretty rubbish so far! We have a ryedale hutch, I can definitely recommend them if you're looking for something sturdy that will last.
