so I came home tonight, later than normal due to work then fetching veggies. I checked straight outside and pulled up the fly cover on the hutch, found the top door unlocked and flapping about, and all the other doors locks where in place but the bolt knobs were the wrong way round. I purposely put each of the bolts in a certain way.

Now I live remotely, so there's not many people to choose from whom could have been in the hutches, so I am going to assume it's my neighbours kids, rightly or wrongly. They have their own pigs but do know my lot.

I've discussed it with my hubbie and he reckons my thoughts are correct, luckily I am working from home tomorrow so will quietly sit and monitor when school is out. I know they won't have hurt them it was more of the shock to find the door open, if it had not been for the fly cover, I dare not think.

So I have decided to create a sign and leave on each door. Without proof I can't go accusing the kids so thought this was the best way for the moment but clearly I am going to have to secure the doors better.

Oh no! I bet it was one of those moments where your heart feels like it's about to beat out of your chest!

I should imagine it would be the children too. Good idea about the signs.

What a scary thing to happen! Hopefully it was just the kids messing and no one else!

That must have been a shock! Hopefully it won't happen again! Glad the piggies are okay though. I agree with others concerning the padlocks.

A similar thing happened to my best friend's rabbit. She'd come home to find the neighbour's kids had snuck into her garden and had let the rabbit out/were playing with it (she eventually ended up losing the poor thing because of it).

I would watch and wait with a good camera and get photographic proof. Then go and show the kids parents and ask them to please stop their children from trespassing uninvited onto your property!

My piggies are inside so the kids next door can't interfere with them. But there have been instances where a football from next door has disappeared from my garden.
The kids have come into my garden to get it when I was at work. Damn cheek!

uh oh, naughty naughty! I would leave a sign on it just saying please don't open the hutch so they know that you know they have been in there

I think your sign is a great idea. But naughty children. Lucky no harm came of it, but they need not to meddle.

I'm so happy that your pigges are okay! I hope you work out what's going on!

Good idea about the sign and maybe install the padlocks if it happens again or if you're worried!

Thanks all. No further interference, and I put up little signs also.
As I was away on Friday morning for the weekend, my other neighbour was looking after them for me so I warned them and they kept a really close eye out. Nothing has happened since but I'm going to look at padlocks, but I'm moving them soon to a shed in any case.

I was proper mortified though...so glad my little noisers are all good though.
