If the guinea-pigs had access to the outside of a hutch cover, do you think they'd chew it, and if they chewed it would it be really bad for them?

My guinea-pigs live in the wendy house, and they have a 3ft hutch which is always left open, with an attached run made of C&C panels. There's the normal doors at the front, but there's one sliding door on the side, I think that door is for chickens, because the hutch was advertised for chickens too, and I was thinking about closing all the doors except the little sliding door and putting the hutch cover on it, but lifting it up so they could still get out of the sliding door into the run, so they'd still have access to both the hutch and run but they'd be a bit warmer, but then they'd be able to get to the hutch cover from the outside.

Give it a try, you could try it and monitor them. I cant imagine a hutch cover being easy to pull apart and actually eat. Piggies are funny creatures. Ive had a cardboard tube for over a year, theyve never bothered it, now suddenly its great to eat.
