Hello, we are new to guinea pigs! We bought a hutch and run in advance of adopting our trio, which the RSPCA was happy with. It is inside in a big shed. But in the few days that we have had everything set up we have discovered that getting access to the hutch with a big run in front of it, is really difficult! Especially as it is the full width of the shed pretty much so we can't get round it.

We are thinking of moving the hutch and run so that they are at right angles to each other, and getting a connector to join them up. Does anyone have experience of this? Are piggies generally happy to use them? Any issues I should think about?

Also, most of the tube / tunnels I have seen for connectors are ridged - would this be ok for guinea pigs' feet?

This is the type of thing: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1142444678/pet-rabbit-guinea-pig-etc-flexible-6

Many thanks in advance for any thoughts / advice.

It's ok to use, I used to have something similar for mine, the only problem I found was as they pee and poop going through the pipe, it all combines to form a smelly soup in the ridges which sets and becomes quite difficult to clean. You'd be better off finding something less ridged.

Thanks so much - that's reassuring, and a helpful tip!

I have the Run Around system which is similar for linking 2 runs in the summer for grass time. Mine have very rarely pooped or pee'd in the tubes but that maybe because they are outside and wanting to get to the grass on the other side! I did find they pooped in the ends of the tubes whilst looking to see if it was safe to come out but that was easily shaken or brushed out. I rinse the tubes out with a hose pipe from time to time.

Thank you - that's good to know. I will look the Run Around system up.
