Hello, I am a newbie but have been lurking whilst planning for my new arrivals. I will be getting a pair of rescue boars at the end of September and am very excited! :(|)

Anyway, I have been searching for a suitable hutch and keep hitting a brick wall. I originally looked at the P@H dandelion den but it hasn't got very good reviews in terms of durability. I love the freddie hutch on the bitsforpets site but it is too expensive (I was umming and ahhing and then the price went up by about £30 and now it is way too much)

I thought this hutch looked like really good value but I have realised that there is only one way in to the hutch which will make it difficult to clean I am guessing? http://www.bitsforpets.com/4ft-hutch-p-4.html

I would like a single hutch as it will be fitting under a shelf in our enclosed veranda so can't be too tall, I would like to get a good sized hutch but price is an issue as we will be buying everything else such as the run at the same time.

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

just a hint, if your getting to boars a 5ft hutch is better, boars need more space than girls to help keep fallouts down.

Thanks, I was thinking that, and was trying to persuade my hubby to agree to the freddie hutch (which is 5ft) but then they put the price up by £30 :( He would have a fit if I spent anywhere near that much.

Do you (or anyone!) know anywhere else I could try for a less pricey 5ft single hutch? Doubles seem much easier to come by for some reason! I have measured the shelf and there is just over 3ft space available in terms of height.

Aarghh I've been searching for hours now. How about this one?

in the 5ft by 2ft option? Do you think it would be sturdy enough and the bolts secure enough if it goes outside in summer?

That one is £80 in total - not implying you are thick, just when I looked I thought 'ooh they are all £55!' then realised you have to add more on to make the total price! So maybe I am the only one that's thick...

What budget are you looking at?

I have the dandelion den and it is very well made, and it's 5ft x 2ft so ideal for two boars my two have plenty of space and I have a hutch cover for it as well for the wet weather:)

Personally, I'd go for the PAH dandelion den. It looks more suitable for piggies with the added advantage of the pull out tray, making it easier to keep the hutch nice and clean. ;)

Get him to give you another £9 (cups of tea work well) and get one of these

My mum has one for her trio, she sealed up the hole and uses the bottom half for storage as the top alone is 5ft x 2ft. I also have one split into two, the top half houses my two Swiss pigs (both huge, big breed) and the bottom half my pair Dodge and Cherry.

Really nice hutches and very easy to clean, waterproof, good bolts, I love mine.

The only thing you might find with the Dandelion Den is it isn't the full 2ft wide, as PAH are a bit naughty and this tends to be the width of the roof. If you have time to spare I will go measure an actual one for you if like, I live close to P@H.

Thanks, but I don't really want a double hutch as it won't fit under the shelf on the veranda! The shelf is just over 3ft off the ground. Thanks for the tip about the dandelion den sizing though. Except I still don't know which one to choose lol! I don't have to buy it immediately but would want to buy soon so I can make sure I have everything ready in good time for the adoption.

Hi

Personally I would keep a look out on ebay. I have a fantastic two storey hutch that is really sturdy and the wood is an awful lot thicker than the P@H ones.

It came with a hutch hugger and cost me £50

Bargain!

Here it is
