Hi, I have a boar, probably around 4 yrs, his name is Stormi, and he's had respiratory issues for a while now, and I wondered if I could use a human/child's nebulizer for him, if it would make it better or worse, what to put in it, and how to use it? I put him in the bathroom while it's steamy when he gets really bad, but it doesn't seem to help. I heard about saline a few times, I was wondering if that's smart, and how much to use. And should I mix it with water? Any answers would be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn’t use anything without checking it with your vet first. When did he last see the vet and what treatments has he had? Has he been xrayed?
I do have a nebuliser that is used in addition to veterinary treatment (antibiotics etc). I use saline and F10 disinfectant in it. But you must speak to your vet first.

Thank you for replying! I took him to the vet twice this month, the first time they just prescribed him little Enrofloxacin Flavor tabs. We did that for 2 weeks, and it didn't help much. We took him back, he got an xray, and they thought he had a heart tumor. They called us later after having professionals check the xray and said it was just a bit of fat. They wanted us to get his teeth checked, but we have yet to do so.

Please just run it past your vet before you start using a nebuliser.
I will! Thanks! So you just use a prescribed one? How much did that cost? And sorry for all the questions, but how do you use it, do you have to clean it and how often?

If he has a URI which isn’t getting better with antibiotics, then it may be that it wasn’t the right type of antibiotic and a different one needs to be tried. Definitely don’t nebulise without speaking to your vet first though.
If and when a URI is completely ruled out then I would also check for irritants in the room or whether any dust from hay or bedding, or washing detergent may be causing respiratory issues.

Check with your vet that it is ok to nebulise. They may prescribe something for you to put in the reservoir.

Speak to your vet as I am sure they can recommend whatever one they think is suitable.
