I've been trying to bond my 1 year old boar, Cornflake, with my 7 month old boar, Walter. I'm trying to have them bonded by the time I go back to my dad's place, because i built a big utch for them before I got them. At first they seemed to get ****** off by eachother but now they seem to be getting along. When will I know and how will I know when they're ready to be in the same cage together?

If they still get on after a few hours, I would put them together. Bonding works only if piggies can be together for long stretches of time; otherwise, they have to start afresh right from the beginning. Bonding follows a strict protocol and piggies need time to work through all of it. Please be aware that boar bondings can still fail two weeks into the bargain when the younger boar tries to take over after the bigger boy has had his say.

Make sure that the common cage has been thoroughly cleaned (including washing down walls and any furniture) and is as neutral as possible when you transfer the boys from the neutral introdcution area.

Have one hidey each, ideally with two exits, two bowls, two water bottles, all spaced well away from each other.

Both boys are still in their stroppy months and are currently at their most difficult to bond/having a stable relationship.

This is a good question. My two boars are seperated as the new one has mites. I am treating both of them as a precaution - Does anyone know when I can put them together so they can start bonding?

Ideally not until after the third round of mites and until the scratching has subsided, unless you are treating both boys. I hope that they are well spaced away.

I would leave them in their cages next to each other for a couple of days, so they can get to know each other before formal introductions on neutral ground. I have posted the link to thread with tips on how to stage an introduction above.

Thanks Wiebke. I am treating both of them. They have both had their first dose. They look at each other through the bars of their cages so they are aware of each others presence. Would it be ok to give them some time in a playpen together now or do I need to wait. I'm not going to house them together yet.
