I'm off on hols on sat and piggies are going to boarding. I now have 4 in together; 3 girls and a boy. I only have the average size pet carrier so think that's too small for 4 even though it is 20 minutes. I can get another pet carrier the same size but wondering if I should put 2 girls in one and a girl and boy in the other or Keep the girls separate given it's a small space, but don't want to risk de-bonding - would that happen in such short time?

Sorry if silly question! :)

Interesting question. I don’t know to be honest but when I take mine to the vets I never take the whole group.

I have a group of 5 and if 1 needs the vet I generally take 2 and the other 3 don’t seem to mind them re-integrating into the group – this can be hours later.

I also have a group of 3 and often 1 needs the vet. I generally take her on her own and she can be away all day and the other 2 let her back in.

My groups are all female groups.

Don’t know if this is the case for everyone but seems to work for mine. I use standard cat carrier sized carriers normally.

cardboard box or a cat carrier will work fine :)

The girls should be fine being split and put back together again, the boy may rumble a bit initially, but they'll all still smell the same so it probably won't make much difference.

Thanks for your replies. Will try To get hold of 2nd carrier and split them up. Always something to wonder about hey! :)

It should be fine to split them up for a little while. :)

But if the carrier is like the size of a cat carrier, then it should be fine for them to all be in one anyway. It's only 20 minutes, and I think if it's quite small then they can just cuddle up together in a pile of hay anyway, and feel safe and secure. :)

But if they don't fit, then two would be fine too.

if * split them * i dont think it would matter but * could keep them in one with lots of food I'm sure the piggies wont mind especially as it just for 2omins

I recently had to take my 7 to the vets and found that one in particuar found it quite stressful and started nipping the others. It happened the week before with a different piggie. I had to remove her in the end and drive home with her in my pocket!

I was thinking of making a wooden box with seperate compartments to keep them apart.

One of my pigs spent the whole day on her own at the vets and then had to come indoors overnight for observation, the ohers were fine with her the next day

20mins isnt going to make much difference. Ive squished 5 girlies into a average carrier before, maybe I'm a bit cruel but they were fine. Your lot should be fine for 20mins. I hope it all goes ok.
