Hello! I was curious as to what part of the fresh broccoli I should feed my boys. I know I feed it to them sparingly, but it has a lot more Vitamin C than pellets, hay, or carrots/leafy greens like I’ve been giving them (I honestly just wanted to be on the safe side with vitamins) daily. Do I cut off the head of the broccoli and just feed them the stalk? Vise versa?

Also: is it safe to feed them cauliflower? And is it given the same way?

Thank you!

Hi, I’ve found with my boars that they like broccoli and colli stalks, they don’t tend to touch the florettes. They get it once or twice a week but they don’t love it (ie it’s not the first thing they go for but they do eat it eventually). They can also eat colli leaves but these are a bit hit and miss too. A good source of vit c is kale, but again this should only be given a couple of times a week too. There aren’t any rules on which parts of broccoli should or shouldn’t be given just try them with a little bit of each and see which they like if any...

broccoli can be fed to guinea pigs--both parts same with cauliflower :agr:

If I remember right, red pepper is a good source of Vit C that is relatively low in Ca. Check it out (I think there's a table linked through the guides somewhere), but we go with a bit of pepper most days and brassicas occasionally to try and balance things.
