my rescue piggie is arriving thursday and he will be in an indoor cage to start with but when he gets a friend i was thinking i might house them outside in this hutch. (it will be a neutral territory then)

do you think this ramp seems safe for guinea pigs? it's very wide and i thought i would modify it and put like side pieces on the ramp and something down the middle that wasn't slippy. don't know what though. if i did this do you think it would be ok?

thanks.:)

i was selling this hutch but no-one seems to want it so i may aswell keep it and modify it! would prefer a single level hutch but seems a waste not using this one when i've already got it. (the story of why i have got it is on my other thread!)

Some guineas manage ramps and others don't. That one doesn't look too steep, so they might be ok. It depends on the piggies. The curious ones learn more quickly!

I would try them, supervised, and see how they go. I can't tell scale but you might need extra 'rungs' as they can't grip very well, or put some rubber matting on it for grip.

Lovely big hutch - lucky pigs!

it's not as steep as most ramps i've seen so i'll try them in it and see how they get on. it'll be weeks before i try them in there though, getting new piggie settled in first and then off to find a friend for him etc.

i suppose if they don't like the ramps they could just stay in the top part as a single 5ft x 2ft hutch. that's an ok size isn't it?

i will put edging on thr ramp and extra rungs like you suggested and something for grip and see how they get on.

thank you. :)

I would have had that hutch from you, if I could get closer, but unfortunately your miles away and I am gutted that we couldn't have it!

I would use carpet offcut on the ramp. The piggies find this easy to use and when use to the ladder charge up and down.

sorry I forgot to add. My two boys who have a ramp about that steep and they find it fine with no problems. They have never fallen off and like to run up it!

yeah it's sods law - when you see something which you want, you can't have it!

so true! :)

i think couriers are really expensive aswell. i recently sold the run that attached to the front of this hutch. it was 5ft x 10ft and i let the lady have it for £25 (bargain!) and she arranged a courier (apparantly you bid online somewhere for one?) and she was four and a half hours away from me, and it still worked out alot cheaper for her to buy the run and pay a courier, than it was to buy a new run of the same size!

don't know how she managed that!

my bf suggested getting a courier to pick that hutch up from you, but I said the thing is, by the time it gets here, from the journey, as it would probably take around 4-5 hours, it could be all damaged.

We modified two of our hutches we have our boys in as we thought it would give them more space if they wanted to get away from each other - hormones an all that!
It took two of the boys a good while before they had their eureka moment but the others did it straight away. Your fab hutch looks great (lucky pigs) and my ramp looks steeper then yours but they manage it just fine.

the run got to that woman ok and that was a long drive because he went other places aswell on his way back. it wasn't packaged either, just stood up at the edges of the van. i told him to be extra careful with it but this online one i think they just do the journey even for one item so if it was on it's own in the back it would probably be ok. you never know though! :)
