Hello everyone,

I lost my 2nd Guinea pig, Luffy, on Sunday (This thread describes exactly what he had, apparently a stomach cancer according to the vet), I was even not 2 years old. :soz:

So I decided to change the whole cage arrangement for my healthy Guinea pig, Patch, so it is now too busy to play around than pining, and to focused to realise what is mssing....
So I bought a very cozy bed (like this one). He goes in, out, but don't use it if I don't make him use it.

How can I suggest him to use it ? Please.

Here is a video of him inside : video

Many thanks

Alex

Have you tried putting a little bit of hay on it or a little veg treat or something to make him want to go onto it?

Mine take 3 or 4 days at least to use anything new. I find a slice of cucumber left in it helps :).

I put some vegetables in it, he is eating there :) I would like he stays to sleep there, it is more comfortable and clean.

But there is the smell of the other pig on the floor, it might slow the process.

Put a blanket in he might go in under blanket then I noticed some guinea pigs don't like being exposed and like a roof/cover over them I use snuggle sacks now but when I use the cuddle cup beds I wrap a blanket round & they use them

And sometimes, despite our ideas about what is best for them, guinea pigs will still just do their own thing. They can be contrary little characters. :))
For example I bought mine a lovely snuggle sack.
Eddi loves it, and will happily lay in it for a snooze.
But all 3 of the girls will only ever lay on top of it, which drives me mad. It has a clear opening, but they just flop on top and squash it

Ours go in their cube, and on top! Inside is warm and cosy, on top is super soft! Pigs are little characters...

I fill my nest with hay. I do line it with newspaper first as they tend to pee in it. The piggies love it and get very excited when I take out the old hay and put fresh in. I now have to do it twice a day, as I couldn't bear the looks of disappointment I was getting!
