Hi my guinea pigs are living I. Hutches but in a shed throughout winter wondering if anyone else has any recommendations on how to keep them warm? I no they do heat pads whih I will buy a few of those, but anything else I can do? Even when it's stoning and stuff I want them to be warm! :(

A hutch cover is one thing. I've also heard of people putting old duvets over the hutch.

Another additional thing is to put LOTS of hay in. I will put a heatpad inside a pigloo in their bedroom area and then fill the rest of the bedroom area with hay as insulation.

You might also consider some sort of shutter over most of the mesh/wire bars part of the hutch to keep warmer air in and colder air out but remember to leave some ventilation holes.

You can buy fleece cozies to put in their hutch. I put the cozies inside an upturned box in the bed area and then pack hay around the box for insulation. The fleece keeps them nice and cozie and away from draughts :) I find if I stuff the box with hay they either eat it or flattern it down. Make sure you have a spare set to change regularly if they get damp.

hey - I posted a thread called winter insulation. I gave details of what I've done to insulate my hutch (it's also in a shed) but there's loads of useful links and advice that other people have posted there talking about exactly the same thing - how to keep the piggies warm for winter in a hutch inside a shed :)
