my two girls live in a hutch in a non-insulated shed outside
they may be moving inside but atm they are staying in the shed
i can't have snugglesafes because my parents dont want a microwave and they want to keep our current one in the loft plus i think they are very expensive especially if you've got more than one piggy
and then i wanted to use snuggle sacks etc. in their hutch but when i put the large snuggle sack with extra wadding i'd spent lots of time on making in their hutch a few days ago they went in it, came out, trampled all over it and then tipped it up so it really was in the way and they keep doing it..

so any ways to keep my girls warm would be greatly appreciated... :)

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have just adopted 2 beautiful boys so wanted to share what I have done to keep them warm and it does seem to be working quite well. In their bedroom area I have put some plastic bubble wrap to keep them off the cold floor then put a puppy pad on top. I then use hemp bedding over the top a thick layer and then a lovely Layer of fresh hay. On top of this sits a hidey house and around the edges of this hidey house I have insulated it with polystyrene and then lots of hay to cover it but also to insulate it. On top of the room of their hidey house is a layer of newspaper then hay again to keep the cold out and then of course the roof of the hutch itself. In all the other areas I have placed puppy Pads, then newspaper, hemp then lots of hay and they have a hutch cover all the way around so the can be zipped in for extra warmth. I change the wet newspaper and hemp very day and so far these seem happy little piggys!

just be careful that they dont eat any of the stuff you have insulated with, i started using puppy pads in their cage but they loved eating them so had ti stop using, maybe old blankets would be an alternative

A thick layer of hay for them to burrow into is probably the best way, but it can be messy.

Just wanted to say that mine also trample all over their snuggle sacks, but I just pop it back open every morning or evening, and if it's cold, they WILL use it. If they aren't cold enough they just throw it about and lie on top of it, but they quickly figure out what it's actually for if they need it.

I also use scraps of fleece, cut into strips, and stuffed in their pigloo or under and upturned cardboard box with entrance holes cut in, which they can burrow into if they want.

Oh the plastic is well covered and tucked in

I have 2 pigs and they live in the barn, we give them plenty of straw and they make borrows and tunnels through them, so that is how they stay warm and cozy. Also if you have them together they can produce more body-heat which will make it really warm !

I find that no matter the amount of hay I fill the hutch with they don't seem to know tat hay is for playing and tunnelling in and prefer to standing it so it all goes flat. As you can imagine I'm getting through a lot of hay! I also use a product called comfy bed which is a wood based bedding, quite soft and seems to stay warm under their little feet. It's also very absorbent and a huge bale only costs £8
