I feed everyone a large pile of hay in a 2x1 coroplast tray lined with either a Guineadad liner or an Ikea toftbo bathmat, and I find that their hay gets damp fairly quickly. I used to use a fabric haybag (with the occasional paper bag) when I had my furry girls, but since these guys are completely naked, I don’t want to risk haypoke/scratches/punctures. They adore their gross grass bed, but I can’t say the same.

Am I too uptight about this or not? Any recommendations for making their fun a bit more sanitary?

Don’t let it bother you, it won’t bother them!
My piggies are bedded on hay. I just remove wet areas every day

I put a small amount of wood-based cat litter under the hay to sop up moisture, it seems to work. That stuff absorbs a lot of liquid so you don't need much.

Edit to add: that's with the hay in a plastic tray. I now see that I've misread this and you already have an absorbent liner under the hay. In that case it should be fine, just remove any bits that you think are unreasonably damp. Guinea pigs do love to pee in the hay pile.
