We want to make a larger cage for our guinea pigs.....

Looking through the pages on here I have found a supplier for the correx (http://www.teacratepackaging.co.uk/correx-board) that sells it at what seems like a very good price and more importantly they have a depot not too far away we can collect from.

However, they only have 2mm thick sheets, I've read that people use these and simply glue them together to achieve the thickness required.........but what glue should we use?

Also, there is no way a 2m x 1m metre sheet will fit in our car.....is it easy to cut? Can I just cut it to the size that we need for the cage at their depot, or does it bend at all?

Thanks

and another problem has just occured to me....

The sheets are 2 meters long, but we had wanted to make a 6x2 cage so the length needed would be longer than that.......can we "join" the sheet together somehow to make a longer bas or do I need to look for a different supplier?

Thanks

If you don't mind looking for a different supplier, a place has it online (click here) has it in 4mm and 2mm on the first one. I use 2mm and have had no problems with it. Not sure about the glue part, but I have used duct tape for the moment. Correx can be rolled up (noting it is done correctly as I have screwed it up before) as mine came thrown over the garden fence rolled up with minimum to no creases from what I can remember. I wouldn't recommend cutting it to be honest.

Could you just order it online? It might make it easier for you so you don't have to cut it up :)

Hmmmm

Thanks for those links........perhaps worth paying the extra few quid to have it delivered......

Will a 2m long sheet be enough do you think to make a 5x2 cage?

PiggyOwner, do you think connectors would make a little difference to the correx template? Your cage seems to be tied so wasn't sure.

the template is for grids with connectors . my side is cable tied as my set up in on a pasting table and is 1 1/2 grids wide

i wouldn't use glue. make one tray slightly larger and sit one inside the other. you can join them using these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-PAIRS-8...670?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43b918a41e ... then the edges that fold round people just stick with tape - there is a guide here: http://www.guineapigcages.com/howtometric.htm

alternatively you could get all the individual supplies from somewhere like the ebay seller linked above, and then thicker correx from somewhere else. i get mine from here: http://www.theonestopplasticsshop.co.uk/polypropylene-correx-c-68_696.html

:)

eta: to join the sheets underneath just use the clear tape, same as the sides :)

I baught all my correx from tea crate pacackaging and it's great. It's also 2mm thick. I wouldn't advide it on a soft surface like a floor etc, but if its going to go on a cabinet or laminate etc then it should be fine. I ordred the full sheets to do a 2x5 and 2 thirds of a grid (width of the room) and I had to cut the end off, so you may get away with just needing one sheet depending on how high you want your sides.

So the sheets have arrived today - yeah for a quick delivery but the condition that they are in is awful :)

Fair enough that they have folded them over gently but then I guess the courier company has then folded it again, stamped on them, put other deliveries on them etc...

There are about two out of ten that don't have physical rips in them, every single one has large areas where the fluting has been compressed flat.

Will these still work for the base of the cage? I guess they would get bashed over time anyway but with the fluting being so compressed over such large areas any structural strength in the board is now gone :(

i'd contact the company and have them exchanged for non-damaged ones. after all, that is what you paid for! :)

Maybe I am just being fussy

Is this normal for sheets?

Definately tell the Company. I feel dreadful because I recommended this company. Mine was folded once when it arrived - but was in good condition. Yours has come in an unacceptable condition.

They have offered a refund............so hopefully that will be processed.

Out of the ten sheets there was a single one in the middle that didn't have a rip in it, just the flutes compressed.

No idea what the courier must have done to them to manage to damage all of them, guess it was just chucked in the back of a van and then had other boxes etc stuffed on top...

No need to feel bad piggyowner, it was the courier not the company that caused the problems - still think that £1.45 plus VAT per sheet is a great price

Couriers just don't care what they do with your stuff, we had a strimmer delivered yesterday and the box was all banged up on that as well.
