hi, i had my guinea pigs for nearly a year and they live indoors in a cage. we also bought them a hutch for outside for summer days for them to get some fresh air. We put them in last year and all they did was sit in the corners but we thought it was just because they were young so we put them in this year and they still just do the same thing. we put them in the run part of the hutch and they still are not even going upstairs in the hutch! does anyone know why they arent doing this. they are fine being handled but its just when we put them in the cage they get scared.

Thanks
::)

I'm guessing because it's all new to them. Their cage will be filled with their smell and familiar surroundings, but if they're not used to the hutch, then they're probably wondering where they are! Just try introducing them gradually to it and they should gradually feel more comfortable once they get more confident.

One of mine couldn't use the ramp in between the run and hutch for ages. I put him at the bottom and pushed his rear end to make him run up it. Once he realised he could run up and down it he had no problem.

My girls didn't like the hutch outside either once I brought it indoors they where happy. It will come to them give them plenty of time and maybe some tunnels and things to do and I'm sure they'll get used to it.

Sadly my girls never did but I think it was the elements they didn't like.

I agree it's probably because it all new to them. Sometimes new things take them time. Fluffy has only just gone up the new ramp in her cage and it's been there for 2 months or something!
have you tried putting food/veggies at the other end so that they have to explore a bit?

yes iv put fruit and things at the other end and all they do it squeak for it! i have even tried putting one upstairs and one down because they like being with each other but still, nothing! if its warm tommorowill put them out! thanks for your help.
