Hi guys, I was feeding Leo yesterday where he climbed up his cardboard hiding. He got one foot stuck in the hiding as he went down and was struggling for a few second. He is also hiccuping/sneezing the morning after the accident. I’m observing him for limping but I’m not to sure what to spot.

Is limping in guinea pig very apparent? For example one foot will be dragged or raised like dogs/cats. Or is it very subtle? And how do I spot it.

I am trying to spot the limp first before going to the vet as my wallet is a bit thin these days. I’ll of course bring him to the vet if he is experiencing trouble with navigating. Thank you so much guys!

It can vary from holding it up to still putting it down to walk but not putting full weight on it

When my piggie hurt her foot it was obvious. She didn't want to put her foot down properly. It looks different to normal. But if he carries on sneezing/hiccuping I would get him checked, could be totally unrelated to yesterday.

Whenever my girls have had any limping it’s been very obvious. Hazel wouldn’t limp for a few seconds and then hold her leg up and almost skip. X

@Piggies&buns @Lucy3733 @Josie_lg thank you for answering ti my thread.

Thankfully the sneezing is fully gone (pretty sure it was a hiccup). Sadly I think she has injured her leg. I’m still not sure though if I have observed it correctly.

Here’s a video I took of Leo. He is the silver and white one. The leg he injured is the back right leg (white up to the knee joint one). If you don’t mind can you watch the video and whether his leg is injured. Thank you so much!

Wow he really wants that treat! What a nice video x

He is putting his weight fully on the leg and he is 'walking' the back legs around rather than 'hopping' along with them both together. This is important as it shows he bears the weight on his suspect leg at least as well as his other back leg. He may be feeling a bit bruised but it doesn't look serious - certainly not like a break or anything. If you had not said which piggy or which leg I would not have been able to tell, which is a good sign. In your shoes I would be keeping an eye on him to make sure he doesn't get any worse, but I personally would not be rushing to the vet at this point.

Thank you @Free Ranger ! I decided not to bring him to vet after reading your comment. As of today there’s has been no limping or anything.

That's great news. It's hard to tell when to be worried about our piggies sometimes. Its good to keep watch over the next few days but it sounds like he's going to be just fine ☺️
