Hi I am thinking of buying my guineapig a soft plush bed from pets at home, and I am just wondering how and how open can I clean it? And if you know, what can I clean it with?

Thanks xx

When I put 'How open can I clean it?', I meant to put, 'How often can I clean it?', :(|) sorry about that.

My piggies used their beds as toilets rolleyes However, to answer your questions, i used to wash mine as often as needed & popped it into the washing machine, using no softener :)

Thanks :) I'm not allowed to put mine in the washing machine (mumrolleyes) so is there any alternative?

well what i do is wash it outside with a hose (on a really sunny, hot day) and then leave it out to dry on something similar to C&C grids.:) it takes atleast one sunny day to dry.

Thanks :) Because we are having a rather chilly summer, do you think I should dry is on the radiator in the house? Thanks x

I had one from Pets at Home and it lasted a few months but the weekly washing in the machine and the piggies pulling at the plush made it quite thread-bear and the cushion had to be thrown away! They do tend to use them as toilets rolleyes

Shake it out daily and brush off the hay, then you could hand-wash if your mum won't let you use the washing machine, or some people put them inside a pillow case in the washing machine to keep it clean - might she let you do that?

I do that with mine, pop them in an old duvet cover on a 40 degree wash and then hang on the line to dry. A wash in the sink would do the trick if your mum definatley won't let you put in the washer. Maybe you could have a spare while the other is drying. Also have you thought of a cuddle pocket, bit like a sleeping bag for guineas, they may be easier to wash frequently. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your great advice!

I think I will hand wash it outside in a plastic wash basin as I'm not allowed to wash it in the sink mallethead {:| Can I wash it with washing up liquid? Or if not, what else can I use?

Once again thanks alot xx
