How do you best spot-clean fleece? Dustpan and brush... or vacuum... or by hand?

I'm using dustpan and brush and finding it drags and catches on the fleece so far but if I don't brush, can get rid of the hay.

On the same note, I'd welcome suggestions on keeping hay contained and off the fleece to (what do people put in litter trays etc for quick easy cleaning)?

I spot clean with a hand vac from asda cost about £14 ! Bargain !

Newspaper is good for litter trays (:

I use a pan and brush , but I have a dustbuster too but I think a pan and brush does just as good a job on fleece, on vetbed I think the dustbuster does better though .

I use some newspaper and finacard in my litter tray which is actually huge , its the base of an imac fantasy hamster cage , here it is.... it catches water bottle drips, most of the hay and most of the poops as well!

I use a dustpan and brush, I find if I hold the fleece down and use the brush slightly sideways it collects both hay and fur pretty well. To be honest when I'm spot cleaning I'm not too worried about a bit of hay being left on the fleece I just aim to collect up the poop.

I use either finacard or paper pellets (breeder celect/back 2 nature/papelit) in my litter trays. I find the finacard gets smelly quicker and tends to get stuck in boar bits more than the pellets though.

I just put newspaper and lots of hay in my box (bottom of an old cage). And i use a dustpan and brush for poop sweeping. I find that standing on the fleece at the same time as brushing helps (if your cage is big enough though) and also having some of the cage furniture (eg wooden archways) left on the fleece can help keep it still.

I do it by hand as I put their food bowl in and their hay rack/water bottle above the litter tray so really pretty much all their poops are in there (<10 or so a day on the fleece itself). Obviously I wash thoroughly afterwards! I use carefresh of one sort or another in the litter tray itself.

Before laundry every 3 days or so I just beat the fleece in the garden over a flower bed to get rid of the hay, never seem to have any in the washing machine so it seems to work.

I have my cage section inside the correx box so it weigbs it down. I either use a dustpan and brush or poo pick by hand. Sounds like a good idea to put everything over the litter tray though. I have a series of wooden hideys in a line or grup und the hay goes on top so keeping it off the fleece.

Like others, I shake the fleece really well before washing to get as much of the hair and all the hay off before it goes into the washing machine. If you don't do this, a single strand of hay can get caught in the filter and prevent it draining - if you don't know how to unblock it, this can be expensive (how do I know this?!). I also wash fleece then tumble it to get more hair off - again making sure dryer filter is cleaned afterwards. I do not find hair all over my other clothes doing it this way, so this is also something to be careful of.

For the days in between cleaning the cage I just hoover poops away (my pigs are not scared of the hoover...I think they actually like it, they follow me around and occasionally popcorn!)

Then on cleaning days, like others, I shake the fleece out in the garden then pop in the washing machine and then the tumble dryer. I have not had any problems with the washing machine or dryer and I do not have hay over the rest of my laundry :)
