Hi

As mentioned in other threads, we house our two pigs in a Ferplast 120 cage. We also have a cat, who we do not trust an inch. The bar spacing on the Ferplast is 25mm and the cat can insert a paw quite a way into the cage. We carefully separate the cat from the cage by closing doors but it is a tedious business!

I would like to fit some kind of additional wire grid or mesh to the front of the cage to give added protection. Please can anyone suggest what I should use?

Where to people tend to buy grids for homemade hutches and runs?

Best regards

David

Hi David,

I have two boys in a cage similar to yours. We adopted our cat in january and she is still a kitten and a bit nuts - she loves to put her paws through the bars to get at the boys. So I made a gazebo type cover thing from a fleece and some mesh fabric netting - the sort you get on ebay for putting under dresses, or veils - and it works great. When my cat tries to paw the cage her claws get stuck in the net and now she doesnt bother, and I didn't put net on the top as she cant reach them from there. The net is on the outside of the cage and the boys have never nibbled it and they can see through it no problem too.

So this might be an option to consider!

Spud through the net - the fleece is only on the top and front but the sides are net and the back is open as the cats cant get in there.

When I get my new cage I am going to make a tidier one and use a ruler to mark straight lines, as the cover also stops hay and stuff escaping the cage.

p.s. Just thinking if your cage is front opening then you could have the strip of net as a flap which can be lifted when you open the cage.
