My two females are kept seperatly due to aggression, and a major fall-out a few months ago. Lately, the two have been gnawing on the bars of their cage, or laying around sleeping. I've provided them with several balls and chews, yet this doesn't seem to entertain them. Any ideas?

Try making stuff, although shop bought toys are great nothing beats a screwed up bit of paper with treats in it, or maybe a hanging treat dispensing ball, a bit more floor time maybe ? or a a toilet roll (with cut down side to stop piggies getting stuck) stuffed with a mix of hay and tasty treats !

Try getting a bit of string and making a kebab of veggies to make meal times more fun too my piggies love that :)

i have a youtube where i upload videoes on how to make toys etc. will be uploading more videoes soon :) !

my boys also live alone and one is constantly chewing the bars too.

I find giving them floor time and a good run around tires them out and when its time to go back to bed they usually get something to eat and drink and go for a nap. Stops the bar chewing for a couple of hours anyway :)) We put carboard boxes, tubes, socks with paper in it, ping pong balls, hidey houses, wooden sticks and kitchen roll tubes (thats all i can think of just now). If they are really lucky we put a bowl of veg and herbs out for them :)

As suggested i use toilet roll tubes and fill it with hay and treats which keeps them busy. We also give them a big ball of shredded paper which they love to dig and make hidey houses in. We also use hay for that too.

Theres also cuddle time :)

I would love to get the girl's new friends, but my room is way too small to expand the cages (which are 2x4 c&c), or to have more cages in case of another fall out.

However, I will definitely try making them some new toys, and hopefully lessen the bar-chewing. (:

You can't go wrong with plain brown paper bags, either stuffed with hay or with the end cut off and both ends folded over to stop it closing - my piggies get HOURS of fun out paper bags. Thats why I order them in bulk! :(|)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190597811...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_3096wt_1336 I bought from this ebayer recently, they worked out cheaper than the last one I used and the postage was fast ( next day ) and free. They do smaller amounts as well. :(|)

if they have 2x4 C&C grids each that is plent of space to get them both a new friend. IF you were to date your girls at a reputable rescue, then the girls were to fall out, the new girls from the rescue would have rescue back up, meaning the rescue would take them back. :)

Does that make sense?

I made the toy Twiams made a video of, my piggy loved it :)
I give him paper bags (primark) I throw a few treats in a pile of hay, make him hunt for it, cuddles and floor time, hay in loo roll tubes, kebabs of vegis.
A lot of stuff I am saving for christmas like chew toys and treats so he can have them in his new cage :)

Hahahah, nuetered boys? That'd be fun. @)
I found a piggie rescue thats not too far from where I lived, and they offer "Piggie Dating", so I'm thinking of checking it out to see if I can get the girls each a new friend. :D

Thats wonderful news. :) Let us know how you get on :)

I would strongly recommend piggy dating - your cages are big enough to pass a home check!

Best of luck!

Well, I've got some good news & bad news.
I took Pepper and Ginger to the piggie rescue today to have their piggie-dates.
Pepper had three possible candidates, but we ended up finding one piggie whom she really connected with. Peaches, which is most likely Pepper's new friend is an adorable little red-ish abyssinian. The girls really connected from the beginning. There was only a bit of a fuss when they first met each other, but that was it.

Ginger however is a completely different story. Each and every pig that was brought out to meet her, caused her to chatter endlessly, or cower in the corner. I think this might stem from the household which she was rescued from, where she was kept in a twenty-gallon glass tank, with another aggressive pig. I told the piggie rescue about this, and they said it might be best to have Ginger living on her own, but in a cage connected to the other girls so that she can still interact, but behind the safety of bars.

.. Are you talking about getting another pig to keep the girls entertained? If so, then I'm already trying. xD

Its good that your trying! And great that pepper has found a friend. :) a neutered boar might suit ginger better. A relaxed older one I would suggest. :) But definatly having her able to see the other girls through the bars will help. :)

I will definetely look into that. The piggie rescue I went to generally only does same-sex piggie dating, and you have to make a special requests for anything other then that.

Pepper and Peaches have a "second date" on thursday. If all goes well, I'll be all set to adopt her. (:

Their are certian rescues in the uk that do have neutered boars, sometimes you just have to travel a little further as they are a little less common

Thats great news! Keep us updated. :)

Piggie rescues in the US seem to be all but common.. there is only two in my entire state. :o

Ohhh. I wasnt aware you were in the US! Sorry. :) I take it neither rescue has any neutered boars?

You could get a boar, and neuter him yourself however only with an experienced cavvy savvy vet and then they may not get along. :/

Hahah, thats ok. (: I probably should have made you aware of that since this is a uk based site.

Anyway, the piggie rescue I visited has six neutered boys, which I've scheduled Ginger to have a 'Piggie-date' with next week.

Oh wonderful. :)

When you bring her and her huspig home (if she finds one) Pop a teddy in the cage (a baby proof one, so no removable eyes etc) this will give him something other than her to take his frustration on. She might like one before hes there too. :)

Excellent idea.

I have just copied your idea and followed your video which was easy to follow. My little piggies loved it. They were all asleep when I hung it in their cage.......then within seconds they were happily bounding towards me. Id filled mine with Cucumber their favourite.
