My husband has bought me a lovely pair of Doc Marten Blaire sandals. I am trying to break them in by wearing socks but they still hurt. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break them in? I know from past experience that the leather needs time to soften up but I’d like to wear them without socks before the summer is over…

Would it be possible to take them to a place that stretches shoes for you?

My Mum used to sit watching telly rubbing the back of a spoon over the bits that needed softening. I've also seen her stuffing shoes with damp newspaper but I think that might stretch them rather than soften.

Thank you for the great advice 🙂 I’ve lathered my sandals with Doc Martens wonder balsam and ordered the Kool Kiss and some moleskin plasters that should be arriving over the next day or so. I’ve been wearing them with socks but would love to wear them with bare feet without them cutting my feet to shreds

How are your Doc Marten Sandals now @Claire W?
Thank you. They’re more comfortable now I’ve used the products suggested and the moleskin has helped too. I’m still working up the courage to wear them further than the local shop / pub without socks x

Are you wearing them around the house? I've done the ironing while wearing new shoes before it and it helps to wear them in.
