Yesterday we lost our little fighter Pikachu. He had genetically teethproblems and became "ill" very sudden (tongue was trapped under teeth). After three weeks with syringe food around the clock, trimmings during anasthesia and a lot of fight from Pikachu there was nothing we could do. His buddy was with him all the way.

But now the little fella lives alone in his cage. On the second floor lives his "brothers". They communicate and"know each other", but live total separately. If you ask them, they are not friends.

Our plan is to rebuild the cc-cage to an L so that they can see each other and talk thru the gate.
But how do we "introduce" them the best way?

And if this not works, we will look for a friend for Chip. We dont want a new crew member, but I guess thats not our decision to make...
Before we start all the work - does Chip need some time to mourn like us humans before we start rock his world?

I’m so sorry for your loss.

All you need to do is just rebuild the cage and put them in their own respective cages. They will see each other through the bars and that is it. They are not being bonded so don’t form a hierarchy as such so there is nothing you need to do.

You will probably see a fair bit of dominance between the bars particularly at first, perhaps power lie ins (where they lay against the dividing wall to mark their territories) but you don’t need to worry about any of it. There should be no issue at all with them living as neighbours.

I have four boars - a pair and two singles (the singles were a pair until they decided to have a fight and fall out), and they all live side by side with each other harmoniously. They all chat between the bars.

You could perhaps give it a couple of days for him to adjust to his friend not being there but I wouldn’t leave it any longer than the weekend to move the cages around. He will be better off being able to interact with the others between the bars.

I am very sorry for your loss of Pikachu 😞 Please don’t try and bond the 3 boars you have left as this is likely to end in disaster and you could end up with 3 singles. Boars don’t do well in trios and will often fight. You’re better to just try and get a new friend for Chip and have two pairs or have Chip living alongside your other two but have them separate with a divider x

I am so sorry you have lost little Pikachu, sending hugs

Sleep tight little one 🌈

Please don’t attempt to bind Chip with another two as tricks rarely work, let him live alongside cor now and maybe find a new companion for him. If you can find the room an L shape would be a great idea for side by side living 😊

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s a great idea to rebuild the cages so Chip can see the others.
But I must agree that attempting to bond 3 boars is not something I could recommend. Boar trios very rarely work. It could end in serious injury and could break the bond between the brothers so you end up with 3 solo boars. It’s just not worth the risk.

Thank you everyone ♥️
As a human you have a special bond the every piggie. Pika was my baby, and also a little troublemaker.

Oh no, that boar trio-idea I already practiced once and it was horrible. Thats why we ended up having two pairs of boars.
I want them to live in "the same cage", with a divider. We have a CC double now, and thinking of making it a Lshape where they can have interaction in the L (two cubes).

For me thats some kind of a new relationship for them. I want them to accept that kind of living and not to stress over that sudden contact. I already know Chip and Bob dont like each other and would never dream of try to bond them to live in the same cage. Is that a bad sign? Will they just tease each other and making us all go crazy?

My Hugo and Wilbur dont like each other but live happily side by side

I have 3 single boars living side by side (they won't make a pair!) they seem very happy. You may find when you first put them together with the divider that they get very excited and throw themselves at the bars and go in for a lot of bar biting. I used to put a spare piece of corex in front of the divider attached with bulldog clips at the top to give us all a rest from this. I removed it for 20-30 minutes a few times a day for about 2 weeks while they got used to each other, after that there was no problem.

From left; Chip, Joe and Bob

Because of the clumsy hoomans this happend. They did pretty good, as long as they had basil and persley to share. The clumsy hoomans do know their boys so we did separeted them.

Its very very exciting to live side by side!
When it gets to dramatic we close the curtain for a while, so that they cant see each other and calm down a bit. Chip cant really relax when the curtains up (Pikas buddy) and Bob gets a bit high pitched and runs alot (Bob likes to chase...). Joe seems pretty amused and chill, but he is like a kobra; very timid until suddenly he attacks. He and Bob are the perfect couple; two as*sholes. Lets hope they get used to the situation so that we can have the curtain up all the time.

Oh dear!

I’m sure they will settle in time!

A little update from the rumblestrutting crew;
Its still very exciting this new kind of living. The curtain goes up and down here.
Chip often seems to forget about his snack, he just eats a bit and then he have to check on the others. Thats totally out of character to now eat every piece right away, but he has been eating for two during Pikachus sicktime and gives chunky a new face right now.

Thank you all for your advice ♥️

One of my favorite pics on Pika. It really shows his beautiful personality!

Sorry to hear about Pikachu, he was a very beautiful GP.

My three boys, Finn, Bear, and Ben don't get along. Finn and Ben have lived together and tolerate each other well.
Main reason I brought in baby Ben was because of Finn's old age, he will turn 7 this year. Ben was a tiny baby when I brought him home, but Finn and Bear didn't like Ben, so I put Ben right next to Finn and Bear in a separate cage.
My three boys do well side by side, Finn and Bear together in one place and Ben right next to the two boys.

A little gravedigging in my own thread to give an update about the situation 😏

Chip was "okay" with the situation living side by side, but not his usual jolly little self. If Joe and Bob was "out of his reach" in the side of the cage that he didnt have direct connection to he was biting the bars constantly. Our thought was to give him some time to adjust. But.

There was a a lonely little piggy on an adoptionsite. He lost his buddy, and was in a temporary home sinece a couple of months and he looked like Chip and Pikachu had a son together.
Me and the kid of the house went to visit the little guy and he was not in a good shape. He was so skinny and his coat looked tired. But he was so friendly. Such a sweet and happy piggy! He was taken, and our goal was to "give home alot of piggy Mcdonalds and a Chip" like my stepson said.

Two weeks later he gained a bit and they coat starts to look a bit healthier. He eats literally everything and it is like feeding a cobra. I love his freckles, Pikachu did have freckles to.

Chip has been a bit of a dic(k)tator during the bonding, but now its finally starts to settle and with some more time we are positive they will have a really good bond. You can tell Kongo has lived without contact with another piggie for a time, its like he talked a different language for the first days.
Chip are happy to live with another piggie again and just wants to dance some rumble strutt with Kongo. And dic(k)tate. Kongo finally starts to tell him off sometimes.

(No, we did not name him Kongo 😅 but I love it. We call him Lasse Kongo. All our guys has a first name and a second name - Chip Tamale, Joe Exotic and Bob Diego. The kid of the house named Pikachu, and he was The Pikachu)

Oh well done for taking on Kongo - he’s very lucky to have found his home with you.

Earlier today. Sharing some basil and talks about the cheap chef 😍

Thanks for the kind words everyone ♥️
But I think the hoomans are the happy ones to have found Kongo. I'm still a bit angry on Pikachu for leaving us, and making us doing this nerve-wrecking bonding with two grown up boys. And from what I understand - this bonding is going very smooth!

Kongo tried to gain some weight by tasting Chip. Maybe I think Chip deserved it...
It was not as bad as it looks like, I just didnt want it to get dirty. And Chip kept it on between washings.

He’s actually bitten him and caused a wound?
We would not say to put tape on him. The way to keep it clean is with saline washes. Seeing a vet is there is an infection risk from anything where the skin is broken.

I dont know if I even would call it a wound, to be honest. It was in the middle of a rosette, and just where Chip tends to drag his little foot when he scratches himself (hence the tape). No blood was drawn and after two-three days we couldn't see any traces from the bite 😊
