How to become a registered breeder

Hi i love my piggies so much and it upsets me that alot of them are breed for no real reason. Are some breeders registered? As i haven't met one yet, and how would they go about becoming a registered guinea pig breeder? I would really like to spread the word.

?/
 
I'm not sure you'll get much help on this one. :/ The members on here are very focused on Rescue only piggies.
 
You can register as a breeder but this is not about the welfare of the animals, more that they have been bred with certain physical characteristics.

Sadly, many breeders do not realise the plight of the many unwanted piggies in rescues. To be honest, I'm sure if they were more in touch with the need for rescues then many would give up breeding to help piggies in need full time.

Some breeders also breed for selfish reasons such as money.
 
Oh ok thanks, feel like some of mine have been rescued from where they were but just thought it would be a good question to ask, then maybe there wouldn't need to be so many needing to be re-homed xx
 
I know what you mean. If breeders were more informed then there would be less problems further down the line. However, I think that being a breeder necessarily means blinding yourself to the bigger picture of where the animals eventually end up (even though the ones you breed yourself may go to very good homes).
