How steep should a Ramp?

My ramp is 90cm long and comes from a height of 40cm and my two have no problems at all.

I think it depends on the pig. My piggies had a tiny ramp once and they never even touched it. If we carried one to the platform that the ramp led to, they would get really scared. They did not use the ramp at all, they'd just jump off the platform.

Do you think small steps would work out better for some pigs?

This is how i was planning on building the ramps: floor with two sides with holes in but not big enough to get out of.

The sides would stop the pigs from falling or jumping off.

Also, what if anything should cover the ramp? Or is Plywood okay?

My piggies have the corner cage by zooplus and the ramp takes a little getting used to but they have no problems using it now :) ..
I covered it with the thin pvc foam grip mat stuff that you use to stop things slipping like tablecloths, not sure where to get it from as I got it from my mum, lol! but just google it and i'm sure theres some somewhere on the net :D

Home bargains sells it 50p a roll.

I used it on my ramps..works great.

this is the only image I have currently of the ramp in my hutch - this was pre piggies and tunnel covering it for their safety.

it is as far from the top end of the hutch as it is from the bottom - in other words the gap before the tunnel starts is enough for them to stand comfortably infront of the entrance to the ramp tunnel, equally the same applies for the bottom part where they dont bash their noses on the hutch wall and can pass each other to go up the tunnel or out of the end.

Its only been since my lad flash has entered the herd yesterday that they have used the ramp to go up and down, I was putting the girls in the hutch down the bottom in the hope they would get the message but they would just run up it and stay up the top rolleyes but now at last all of them use it.

I made the ramp myself as I also made my own top floor hole - I put a new floor over the exsiting one but with less of a gap for the ramp as I didnt want them to fall down the gap. I made the ramp as shallow an angle as possible and with big rungs (five of them) so they have a lot of grip plus with the tunnel made by http://www.cosycavies.co.uk/ I think it works well for my hutch and the piggies
