Recently I adopted a gorgeous little boy from P@H (in the re-homing section) and he's called approximately 8 or 9 months old. I'm really hoping I can get him and Chester bonded, because I know that guinea pigs are social animals and thrive in pairs. I'm giving him over a week to settle in properly (he's very confident, but if he wasn't I'd definitely give him more time to get used to me) but then I'd like to let Chester and him meet. I'm thinking about putting the cages beside each other so they can talk to each other, and then let them meet in contact about 1 or 2 weeks later. I just want to make sure that the bonding process doesn't go too quickly and I really want it to be successful, although if they do not get along well I have a plan B.

I would recommend to put the cages next to each other after your new boy has passed his quarantine, even if it is only for a night or a couple of days.
We have got lots of guides at the top of this section. Please take into account that it takes about 1-3 candidates to find Mr Right if you date a boar at a rescue, so you will need to be able to keep the two boys next to each other for mutual stimulation and company if things don't work out.

I hope everything goes well! I too had to bond my boars myself as dating doesn't exist where I am! All I can say is when they do meet be prepared to supervise for the next several hours! Took my boys almost 4 hours before they settled down to have a nap.

Okay, I'll do that this week. I really wish I could of done boar dating, but I couldn't because the only rescue that does it and is nearest to me is a 2 hour drive away D:

Thank you! I plan to take note of behaviour and sounds they make towards each other, but I have a good feeling that they'll get along! My piggies are so energetic and restless that I'm certain it'll take them at least 3 hours to finally settle down, haha!

I'm almost certain mine went on all night, there was running around and strutting at 3 in the morning! Haha

Oh I know! My boys started right back up and my Keiko was a broken rumbling record the first couple nights lol
