My pigs are extremely scared at the moment, I have only had them since Friday but a fellow piggy person at work said I need to keep handling them but I don't want them to keep getting even more scared.

What should I be doing?

Handle them frequently, give them a week or two and they will be fine. However, don't disturb them if they are sleeping!

My little guy still hides loads but and i've had him about a month but he does eat out my hand :)! He licks too lol! I handle mine all the time!

You can try one of two approaches:

the robust one - handle them as often as possible

or the softly, softly one - let them settle in first and only handle them regularly when they are comfy with your presence

Personally, I prefer the softly, softly one that respects a piggy's wishes more. But they will adapt to both ways. It takes about 2 weeks either way for them to get their bearings.

Thank you!

I am going to try and handle them tonight, I didn't touch them at all yesterday. I am going to put a low radio on at the side of them for a few hours tonight.

Ahh your pig licks you?! Hope mine do that! :(|)

I shouldn't be so impatient, I have not even had them a week yet. Wish they weren't so young to be honest cos they are probably missing their mummy as well as having to adapt into a new home. All I want is a guinea pig kiss! x>> :<>

First get them to eat out of your hand and then if you can place one hand under and over them without them struggling then you should handle them for 30 minutes every day. This is only my opinion and what I do. I handle two at a time at first so they have a friend and after that one at a time :)) As they get used to you handle them more and more.

In my opinion, Once they feed from your hand, place one hand under and over them (back and belly hold) and if they are not scared pick them up. Keep two on your lap at first so they have a friend beside them. Later on take only one out so you can really bond. Spend as much time beside their run and cage as you can so you become a regular customer :))

30 minutes?! I am lucky to get 30 seconds out of them at the moment! :))

I would love to have them on my lap. :)

I will put some veg on my hand later and see what happens! drool

Well, work it up to thirty :)) Have you got grapes they love these! Just chop in half and voila! Dont give more than two per pig as sugar content is high. And only seedless ones.

Yes I bought some last night and my hammy got one aswell! Oops, didn't cut them up although I saw teeth marks in one this morning! :(|)

They have now got curly kale, cherry tomatoes, parsley, basil, cucumber, celery, grapes, baby corn cobs, carrots and brocolli - they eat better than I do! :(|)

I bet they do :)) You dont have to cut them up it just helps the cavy get a grip on it.

Think Parsley is my boys favourite, along with Basil. To be honest, I don't really think they are that fussy! :(|) I have only really had to take out bits of brocolli and carrot.

I have also ordered them a wooden ball thing with a bell in and a snuggle sac! :(|)

They WILL love me one day, I will make sure of that! :<>

Snuggle sac ! oh i wish i had one ! I'm getting a snuggle bed soon :))

Why can't they make things like that for people?! Imagine on a Saturday night, inside your snuggle sac watching X Factor with a glass of wine! drooldrool:<>
