i just got a long haired piggie as i just got 1 last night only about 9weeks old and was wondering how often should i wash her ?

I only bath my long haired piggies if they have mites,or if they are mucky round the bottom.I keep the hair at the rump cut short so it does not get so messy.

For mucky bottoms I do not give a full bath.I just wash the backend.

I had a long haired piggie called harry once he was georgous long silky white hair but boy did he get in a mess and he suffered from mites at least once a year so i bathed him a lot he hated it and got stressed the last time a bathed him he died the day after i think he cought a chill since then i have never bathed another pig he was an indoor pig as well so he was kept warm at all times :smitten: :smitten:

I bath arche approx once a month, but i only do his back half because his head etc doesnt get mucky, its just he likes to wee and sit in it! he's quite good at having a bath so I'm lucky :)

You shouldnt wash them more than every 6-8 weeks....

I dont bath mine unless they are dirty or need treatment...usually around every 6-8 months for the dirtyness factor...

Washing to often can cause more harm than good :) O0

Most guinea shampoos you cant use until they are 12 - 14 weeks, unless you buy one specially - but if they dont have mites and arnt dirty - they dont need a bath :) O0

ok thanks i just wanted to make sure i think i will trim the hair around her bum area tonight so it stays nice and clean O0

Good luck :D I dont hardly bath any of mine cause i mostly have short haired cavys ;D

my other 4 are short haired i wanted a change and got a long haired just to be different i suppose lol ;D

I bath mine every 2-3 months but once a week I clean his bum with a baby wipe and give him a wipe down with baby wipes.

I do mine every 6 wheeks in Posh N Go :) They get a trim round the trouser area then too :)

i do mine 10-12 weeks. bob and munchie get a bit smelly ::) so i bath them, and use just for boars

merlin is a bit young yet, but I'm still bathing him once a week in manuka and neem shampoo until I'm positive his fungal is gone, wont come back, and his hair is grown back. when i think he is old enough i will be using posh and go, and he will be bathed same time roughly as bob and munchie, and I'm gonna buy some pet wipes, so i can wipe his bum area when it gets wet/dirty

I've got Texels and Peruvians and it's definitely easiest to keep their bottoms trimmed - unless you're going to show them! Just be careful when cutting (round-ended scissors are useful!).

i do mine about every 6-8 wheeks, it depends really.you shouldn't do it more than that really, unless they are really dirty! and as others have said, if it's just a dirty bottom, then just bath that. i trim round the hindquarters so it doesn't get mucky and tangled, and that helps. i brush everyday, wheather they like it or not! this, i find, keeps the hair in good condition O0

thanks i will keep this in mind O0

i have been trying to trim around her bum area today but she kept running away so i just left it when she is calm i will try it i don't want to accidentally cut her

i have a small pair of rounded scissors i will use them O0
