Hello! My guinea pig doesn't seem to have bloat but isn't eating much hay. The last time we went to the vet, she said 0.5 ml of simethicone three times daily. I am afraid that is too much... should I give him a 0.5 ml dose?

We don’t recommend the use of simeticone on here. Reason being that it collects all the gas into one big bubble, which can be extremely painful for guinea pigs to pass. If he doesn’t seem to have bloat then you shouldn’t treat it unless you have confirmation from a vet.

If you think he’s not eating enough then switch to daily weighing and get him booked in for a check.

Ok, thank you for the advice. The vet clinic is closed today and tomorrow for the weekend though...

Yes our vet really discourages using simethicone and other colic remedies too, she said this could collect the gas into a big bubble that can burst the gut... really you need to see an emergency vet who will prescribe emeprid, and as the others have said, keep syringe feeding a high fibre recovery food/probiotic until then.
Hope your piggy will be ok!
