hey how much usually should a check up cost at the vet?

It varies for each surgery.
Mine charge a £30 consultation fee, so every appointment is that as a minimum

Mine charges 20 euros for a general check up, but I live in Germany, so it's a little hard to compare. I believe anything between 20-40 euros is within the normal range.

An exotics consultation at my vets is about £55 I think. It includes an X-ray if needed.

Ours is £18 for a consultation and £11 for a check up, no idea why they are so cheap they are fine with the basics!

Our local vet has 2 rates, £22 for a healthy pig check up or a follow up appointment after a consultation, and £38 for a sick piggy consulation.
The specialist referral hospital we took Blod to charged £117 for an initial specialist referral consultation, but then we didnt get charged at all for the follow up appointment and now we are registered I think we are able to book future specialist consultations for Blod at a lower rate maybe £70.
Not cheap these piggywigs, but a general health check or something like a sore eye or minor infection that can be dealt with by a general small animal vet isnt too bad :)

£30 just to see the vet and then meds on top of that. But if you go back for a follow up appointment with the same problem it’s cheaper. About £22.

Just to say that choosing a vet who knows guinea pigs or has guinea pigs can save you a whole lot in the future, money as well as heartache, so I'd make that my most important deciding factor.

My regular village vet charges 30 Swiss francs, the specialist exotic vet charges 55 Swiss francs, my super specialised but no frills vet at the zoo charges what seems fair after a bit of discussion with the owner, and if you help with the consult and procedures (holding oxygen masks, etc.) you get a bigger discount.

i can’t find any vets who specifically look at guinea pig’s

Yes I've never seen one just for guinea pigs. But I prefer to go to a vet who's had them if possible. Or like with the Pets at Home in store vets, they do see a lot of guinea pig issues. Some vets seem just able to deal with cats and dogs, I have had a vet say they don't know much about guinea pigs. It was just a shock to me at the start that I'd have to check whether a vet was good with guinea pigs.
Obviously in an emergency, any vet is better than no vet.

I find the further north you get, the cheaper things seem to be .
There are quite a few vets in Rochdale so they all compete with each other although my vet used to have guinea pigs herself and is the small animal specialist at the practice which is why I always try and book to see her
