How Much Floor Space?

So, I am looking to rearrange my pig room and be done with the hutch completely and change to C+C. It currently looks like this:

My herd will be 7 by the time I rearrange the room and my whole reason for rearranging is because I need to have their space up off the floor. I struggle to get down onto the floor to clean so we are going to build an L shaped worktop in the room to have a large c+c cage on with loft levels. My question is, how much floor space minimum do I need for the 7 piggies? Obviously I will give as much as I can but I want to make sure my plan's are feasible before I start building so that I know if my L shaped work top plus lofts will give them the space they need :)
 
From our basic measurements the pigs will have at least 17 square feet of floor space without lofts.

I have no idea, and no idea how to work it out either, the only thing I know is 2 grids by 4 grids = 2 piggies. Or a 140 cage for 3....so perhaps go for something 2 meters long? and a 1 metre wide (mind you that is a large space to lean across to clean?)

In your position you can only go as big as you can go, so I'd just build it, I mean they have a room right! it can't really be that small!

I would just build it as big as you are comfortable with/ have space for. Good luck. I am sure it will be plenty big enough.

this is were i got my cubes from I only had to get one lot for my whole cage ! (and I'am sure you can raise it with a ikea unit so you can have loads of storage !
 
It will be a U shape we have decided, with space in the middle for me to move around and access all the sections. We've worked out what they have now compared to what they will have and with the lofts etc they will actually have more floor space. Everything has been ordered now, grids, correx and binders for the edges of the correx. As soon as they come we'll get the wood for the space and spend a whole day building :)

Are you adding a loft?
I'm not making a loft for mine now, even though I was going to permanently attach the ramp. I worry about accidents.
 
How exciting! I bet you can't wait. The thought of making a C&C always excited me. Hopefully I get my chance in the future.
Looking forward to pictures when its all finished!
 
I would say unless your REALLY tall don't go over two grids wide. I 64" 5'4" tall and I struggle a bit to reach across for cleaning, more so under the loft. Unless you can move around to all sides of the cage anyway, then I wouldn't go wider. But I can only be on one side because my cage is against a wall. I have three pigs in a 2x5 w/loft and I think they need more floor space. A U shape sounds fabulous! Can't wait to see it!

Up with 7 pigs lol. I have three, 2 kids (human) 24/7 and A human baby 4 days a week, 2.5 dogs, 2 cats, and the pigs and I'm FrEaKiNg OuT! Lol.
 
Haha I don't have kids and I have a very helpful husband. I just have 7 pigs, 2 dogs and 22 fish :) Thanks for the advice Angela, I'm going to see how far I can reach. I'm nearly 5'8 so I don't think i'll have too much of a problem reaching. I have more than enough grids on order so it's going to be fun experimenting when the table is built for it :)

Came up with some new words while doing mine lol lol.
Today has been great! Went to check the babies pants and my fumb went right in poo as I barely stuck it into to pull the back out to look. :yikes::doh: We both had a bath now! TMI I know lol.

I have 5 brothers and sisters. 1 sister with 3 boys. 1 sister with a little boy. 1 sister with two girls and a boy, one brother in law with 2 boys and a girl and one best friend with a boy who is my adopted nephew :) :)
