Two new guinea pigs, very cute and all that, but I wonder how much bedding material to put in? Is it just a blanket of hay/straw, (we're on natural materials currently) or do they prefer enough to burrow in to for all round warmth?

All the advice out there seems to be what to use, not how much!

do not use straw at all it is no good for piggies as can be far too sharp and can poke their eyes. Hay is fine they do like enough to burrow in if that is what you are using in the bed area or alternatively you could use fleece etc..

I use an inch depth of megazorb. This is also a natural material. As well as a layer of hay for them to play in and eat.

Guineas love munching and rummaging around in hay. Give them quite a bit then top it up daily so they have a fresh lot to play in and eat, they'll love it!

If you put too much in (filled to the roof) they'll probably just trample it all down and wee on it, then they wont eat it - so there is a happy medium.
