hi got my two piggies 4 days ago how many times a day and how long should i be getting them out for... i have noticed if i give them floor time they are still a little skitty but if i put them in a towel on my lap and let them explore the sofa they seem a lot calmer... should i leave them to roam or keep picking them up and petting them one seems abit more settled than the other... also should i always get them out together or have 1-1 time thanks in advance xx:D:D

I pick my girls up at least once a day. For bonding I'd say once or twice for 10-15 minutes, they may be wriggly at first because you're bonding with them. Leave them to roam when out on floor time, but give them a pick up for a short time in between.

Thank you this is interesting. I am bonding with 3 very skittish boars, I have been giving each about 15 mins a day, which I will increase as a time goes on. They are starting to come out of their hide holes.

some1 told me a good tio the other day that i am going to try and its put a small radio near their cage or hutch on low and have it on a station with lots of talking apparntly it gets them use to human voice

OOo, that is a good idea! But the only place I have a radio these days is in the car. Maybe I can leave my audible app playing, I wonder what sort of books they like?

it will have to be something animal related maybe peter rabbit or wind in the willows lol they like soft music aswell such as classical well thats what i read anyway lol x

All the Maeve Binchy Novels and most of the Erica James's ones too. There must be a few 100 hours worth there.

i am going to try tomorrow just with a bit of radio 4 lol can any1 answer me about my 1 to 1 time tho please

I think it depends on the piggy. Toffee pig had a good 15 mins yesterday, but treacle pig had only 5 minutes as he started to struggle. I would rather build treacle up slowly, maybe he is always going to be a bit skittish. But being a small animal, I don't want to stress them, if they want to go back in the cage then fair enough. Where as a larger animal might learn by association, such as a dog whining to get what it wants, you might resist, to avoid them learning bad habits. Piggies might learn this way, but, avoiding stress is key.

Mine are able to get in and out of the cage on their own (at ground level and the door serves as a ramp) so I make sure they have freedom to come and go for several hours each evening, after the kids go to bed when there is no risk of them getting stepped on. They are seldom out all that time, but will come and go. I put food down for them and they are always right out to get that, and then they seem to come back out and sniff around periodically after that (probably checking if I put down more food!) I hold them at least once a day, often twice as the kids also like to get them out. The time varies, once they get squirmy they go back (it usually means they have to pee!) So a pig with an empty bladder may get a good, long, snuggle, and once who just ate a giant cucumber slice and gets wiggly may not get as much lap time that night. But it all evens out in the end.
