I was just wondering how many guinea pigs can fit in my guinea pig cage. The size is 140 double floor.
:))

thats quite a decent size. I have one pig in a 100cm double and i would not want to put another one in there so for me personally i would say a pair of pigs at a push 3, but you will probably find that everyone on here will have different opinions xx

A 140 single level is the minimum for a trio - and you can't really count the extra level as potential for adding more pigs as they have to be able to be on the same level at the same time without being cramped for space.

The most I would consider using a cage that size for is a very well bonded foursome of females (definitely not males).

I agree - it is two boars (sadly, trios tend to be unstable) or three sows/two sows+1 neutered boar. You can go up to four at a push.

With sows, you can always think about rehoming a neutered boar with them; he stabilises a group. ;)

It would be great if you would consider rehoming from a reputable rescue; they can guarantee that the piggies are healthy, guaranteed not pregnant, will work out together and have been handled. They will also support you with advice during the settling period. None of that you will get from shop piggies. Look through our pregnancy/behaviour and health sections!

Are foursomes a stable group? I have 2 of each, at the moment the 2 boys are together until Rebel is old enough to be snipped, I have a 5x3 double decker hutch that I'd like them all to live in if it's suitable.

Four girls yes, three girls a neutered male yes but 4 males or 2 females, 2 neutered males most likely not. I wouldn't personally try and bond 4 males or have 2 males in with females unless I had a serious amount of space ie practically free range and even then it would be dependent on the boys personalities.

Bart has already bonded with Angel and Lola, Rebel is Lola's son and hasn't been neutered yet, which is why he is living in a separate hutch with Bart who is neutered. Rebel follows Bart like a lost sheep and idolises him, where Bart is, Rebel is normally 5 paces behind. If they can't be bonded, that's no great loss, The boys can go in the larger double decker hutch. ;) Bart is so laid back, he's practically horizontal, nothing bothers him

I would say definatly dont try to bond them (males will simply fight over the females, because neutering doesnt change there behaviour or desire to mate, just the ability to have babies! hehe.) If the males seem to be bonding i would leave it as is. Simply because if you try, its likely the boys will never go back together after that. Then you could have some problems on your hands.

Also, leaving them as is, means you have no need to neuter the little one. Saving him the trauma of surgery.

Because Bart is getting on, my fears are that he'll pass on leaving Rebel stuck on his own. Whereas, if he's neutered, I can at least try and bond him with the girls if Barty leaves us. Bart is nearly 6, Angel is only 20 months old and Lola 9 months, so the girls are reasonably young.

Ah, then maybe neutering him would be best for you. Can i ask who neutered your older boy?
