How many grids do I need for a 3x6 C&C cage?

I'm going to be making a C&C cage for 3 (possibly 4, haven't introduced them to see if they get along yet) guinea pigs, they're all male so I want to make sure they have plenty of space, my problem is that there's not many posts about 3x6 size cages and what you need to make them, I know enough about the basics, I just need to know how many grids I need, I could wing it but I feel like I'd end up with too many or not enough. The answer is probably obvious but I can't seem to think of it.

Are you asking for a 3 foot by 6 foot cage or 3 grids by 6? If it's grids then it will be two sides of 3 and two sides of 6 so 18 grids altogether

Probably 9x9, and I might be adding a loft but I'm not sure.

Did I read that correctly? You are planning a herd of 4 male piggies?

Yes, I already have 3 together and they get along well, occasional bickering but never a serious fight, I'm making a bigger cage to eliminate any problems and also just to make them happier, and the fourth may or may not happen, if they don't get along when I introduce them he'll remain separate but nearby so he doesn't get lonely, anything for my cavies.

Well there's 12 inches in a foot so a 3 foot length would be 4 grids. So 4 grids by 8 grids should make the right size.

On the forum we occasionally see trios that get along but more than often it doesn't work out especially when they hit the hormonal stage. The danger with adding a 4th is that you could upset the bond to the extent that none of the 4 will live with any of the others and you end up with 4 single males. This is of course worst case scenario and you are doing the right thing by giving as much space as possible. I would probably consider sticking with the 3 you have and not risk upsetting them

Thank you, I probably should've been able to figure that out but I'm bad at thinking in that way.

And thank you for the advice, I would love to see them all together but if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. Anything that will make them the happiest they can be.

If you already have the fourth one you could split the cage into two (just a line of grids through the middle) and have two pairs that can interact through the bars. A 4x4 cage for a pair of boars is still a fabulous size

I do already have the fourth and I was planning to put him in his own 2 foot by 5 foot cage next to the cage with the three so they could interact through the bars without getting into any confrontations and without having to split up the three, but if something else doesn't work out that would be a good alternative.
