How long should it take for soft poos to normalise?

I took Eddie and Elvis off fresh food and have been feeding just hay, pellets and water since I saw soft poos on Thursday. I think it's because I was giving them grass while Eddie has not not been eating white enough hay and over did it by accident. I'm still seeing soft soft and deformed ones now. How long should it take before they normalise again? Is there anything I can do to speed this up?

Thanks in advance :)

There isn’t really anything you can do. Hopefully they’ll be normal again soon. Are they in better form than when you stopped them?

It depends. Some of them are the right shape just a bit soft but some of them are blobs and not formed at all.

Hi!

Ideally poos should improve again noticeably, if not fully, within 24-48 hours of having been taken off fresh food.
Fresh, and especially still damp grass can unfortunately cause quite a bit of havoc on unaccustomed tummies, even in rather small quantities at first.

At this stage, I would recommend to step in with probiotics to help the gut microbiome back up on its legs again and would speak to your vet if things haven't improved over the coming week.
Because both boys are showing the same symptoms, 'poo soup' (i.e. live healthy microbiome transfer from a healthy piggy) is not not an option for you.

If they arent getting worse and the poops are still coming regularly I wouldnt worry too much, just stick to the hay and dry food diet for a couple more days, then reintroduce veg very slowly- maybe one or 2 stems of fresh herbs or a small piece of pepper, leave out any lettuce or cabbage for a week or two! You might try a probiotic just to help rebalance the gut maybe if things dont settle down soon?

I've been putting ProC probiotic in their water for a few days now and I've seen both of them drinking so they are getting some but do I need to syringe it directly? When Eddie was on antibiotics I did this but he learned quickly that he can let it dribble out of his mouth again so I'm not sure it would be any more successful to be honest. And yes the grass was still damp as my vets said to make sure Eddie was getting enough fluid to sort out the slightly gritty wee he was having. Now it's gone too far

I'm unsure if both boys are showing symptoms or not as some of the poos are fine, some are formed but soft and some are just blobs. I'm still giving Eddie top up feeds of CC too so there's a variety of sizes of poos from that as I'm still trying to work out how much he needs.

I don't think it's getting worse but I'm surprised it's not getting better by now...

Mix a pinch of the probiotics into the CC; that is what I usually do with my ill piggies that are getting feeding support. ;)

The next step would be some fibreplex, which you most definitely want to mix into your recovery formula mix since most piggies do not like the taste of it. Your issue is thankfully fairly borderline.

That's a good idea, thank you :) I have some Fibreplex too so I could try either.
