I've only had my rescue gp's for 5 days and they are both still skittish understandably. They are getting used to me and one of them (Sophie) will take food from very near my hand but runs a mile when I try and pick her up, I do the tube method so she doesn't panic as much now when moving her to the run.

What sort of sign am I looking for before I try lap time?

Poppy is a coronet so I need to brush and cut her hair, I have managed to brush it whilst she was in the cage and even did half a hair cut so shes a bit lopsided now! But now she's even more nervous around me than she was before, so catch 22 really. She needs this stuff done but its freaking her out when I do it.

Thank you, I'm just still very new at this :)

I usually give piggies about a week until I attempt to catch them, unless they need a vet check when I register them.
Every one is different and it can take weeks or sometimes months before a piggy will accept lap time.
The tunnel method is good for catching a nervous piggy, and you are clearly doing things right with offering veggies.

Unless your long haired piggy is getting tangled or matted or too grubby then don’t panic about trimming her fur. My long haired Priscilla also has a lopsided hairdo.
@Betsy wrote a helpful and funny guide to Cavy Coiffure which is on one of the forum threads.

Do you have a snuggle pouch?
My little Phoebe was very skittish at first and the only way she would be held was in her pouch.
It took about 3 months with her but she is now a happy and confident piggy who hates being caught or held as it interrupts her playtime

Hmmm...ive just reread 'how to settle a shy new gp' and now I'm wondering if I rushed putting them out in the run.

I have a snuggle pouch coming, should be here by the end of the week.

Didn't happen in the end, we started on the nails and the ladies were not impressed! Don't think their back ones had been done for ages in their previous place and the quick was very long 😒 did a very small nip and hope if we do that regularly it'll recede.

Now investigating a natural nail file item for their cage... Maybe on their ramp when I install their second level. Open to suggestions! 🙂
