Ellen and Edward are indoor piggies but with the weather being so nice, they have been in their outdoor run daily. They have domes, tunnels, dry food, hay and water in their run. I’ve been putting them out late morning and not bringing them back in until teatime but is this to long? How long do people put their piggies outside for?

I’d like to know this too, and also (sorry to tag on) but am I right in thinking not to put out on wet grass?

Once mine get used to having grass again I just gradually increase the time and then if i'm home all day they will be in the run until they have had enough :)

Mine stay out all day from mid morning/lunch time until around 8pm (depending on when it gets dark). Is this too long? I make sure the run is covered from sunlight, they actually sun dodge and there’s a box and a tunnel in the run, with water and food pellets.

Mine have hand picked grass every day. On lovely sunny days they go out for about an hour. They are well tired afterwards and gomand lie under their beds immediately.

I agree with @Flutterby and @Mother Hubbard

As long as they used to it and have cover from elements, it’s fine but it’s bring them in before the temperature drops too much or it gets dark (in case of predators)

If I’m home they go out mid afternoon (so there’s some natural shade on the lawn) and stay out until the temp/light drops or I have to go out. I also cover part of the run (the half with their carry-box) with a towel so they have double shade and single shade and sun to choose from. Obviously the later it gets the more shade there is.
They seem to take shifts. They’ll be all munchy for a while, then they’ll all disappear for a bit then come back out again. This is B.B.8 having a mini- flake-out. Lasted all of 6 seconds and the lure of grass was too much!

Mine go out for quite a long time, making sure there is always shade and water as well as wrapped ice bottles in this heat. I keep checking on them and gradually lengthen the time at the beginning of the season. Be very careful with plastic pigloos; they get incredibly hot outside - I stick to cardboard boxes - which gives them the option of nobbling something different :D.

Thank you everyone. They have plenty of shade and I make sure to bring them in before the temperature drops or it gets dark. Our grass is also very short so they're not eating it all day :)

Our garden is also quite small so we have the patio doors open whilst they're out so we can constantly keep an eye on them. If they show signs they've had enough, I do put them back :)
