How long does it take for the body to go bad?

Hi,

I had two guinea pig. I recently lost one of my guinea pig call Sky and she pass away on Friday. Sky was suffering from a really bad seizure so I had to take her to the vets and she passed away. I did not show her body to her sister Ginger on Friday when I brought her back as the vet said it not recommended as it will traumatise her but now I am feeling unsure and regret. Sky is in a bag and blanket from the vet. I can’t bury her yet as the ground is wet so it will make it hard for me to dig but hopefully I will be able to bury her tomorrow.

How long does it take for my guinea pig body to be decomposed or bad if that make sense? She passed away on Friday and tomorrow is Tuesday.

Ginger is eating as normal and being curious but I think she wondering where her sister is. She saw how bad her sister seizure was. I was wondering if I should show her dead sister body before I bury her or leave it be?

Best leave it be, I think. If you can freeze it until you can bury it, it might slow down decomposition, but the sooner you can bury the body, the better. I am very sorry you lost your piggy in such a difficult way. Getting a new friend for Ginger would be the best thing to do for her. Perhaps a local rescue could help you find a friend for her.

I’m sorry Sky died . It’s heartbreaking.
As @Truffolo said it’s best not to show Ginger Sky’s body as there is a slight risk of infection now.
Putting Sky in the freezer would be best until you can bury her. Then it needs to be quite deep to stop any wildlife digging her up.
From my experience I noticed my Geoff was quieter and definitely missing companionship.
A rescue would help you find Ginger a friend

I am sorry you have had to ay goodbye to Sky, it is never easy. I hope your bereaved piggy can find a new companion soon.
