I have a 2x4 C&C with a loft and I need to buy bedding in bulk now to save money, I've seen that fitch is highly recommended but was wondering how long the 20kg lasts with large cages?

Thanks :)

I'd say a good 3-4 months at least. My cage is about twice that floor space and I'm hoping to make it last me 2-3 months (just getting my first bale since having the new cage fully in situ so not 100% sure how long it'll last). I find it's really absorbent and so only needs a small layer - but I guess that's a bit dependent on how mucky your piggies are! ;)

That would be amazing if it lasted that long! I'm currently spending a good £4 on bedding a week so that is excellent value in comparison! I think I'm just going to take the leap and get some :)

Oh my! Yes, even if I've over-estimated it's still definitely going to be much cheaper than that! Hope you end up loving it as much as I do :)

I must have been putting too much in my runs & cages. I have a 2.5m x 1m indoor run + 2 x 1m cages & 1 x 1.2m cage. One bale of Fitch lasted me 3 weeks!

Woah, you got through that quickly! Although you have many more cages then I do, I'm hopeful this will help my bank balance more then anything else!

Wow! My first bale has lasted me 6 weeks but I know that I used far too much in the first week plus I had to do a full change for the sake of 2 days which used a lot so taking that into consideration I should be able to get a good 8/9 weeks at least out of it. I'm lucky though that my boys have taken to using their hay loft as a toilet so the main cage is kept cleaner for longer and doesn't need as much topping up from spot cleans. I was using Fitch to line the hay loft but as it was still needing changed daily I've taken to just using hay to save on the Fitch :)

I've tried just about everything there is & was going to go back to Megazorb but they've changed it from what I was getting early in the year & it's only lasting half as long. I've just got a bail of Auboise & will start using this at the weekend. At present down to the big run & 2 cages. In just over a week Rex should be able to come out of his post neutering quarantine away from females & hopefully bonded with Mother & Mousey. Then just the run & one cage until Minky gets better.

My boys just wee wherever they are, they're not as clean as yours rolleyes I'm hoping I can make it last though, as I've heard (mostly) good things! There loft will be hay so that saves a little bit of fitch a week too I guess :)

I had heard good things about megazorb, I was just a little put off by the fact the bags are quite small! And I bet you're counting down the days until you can reduce your cages down! I hope Minky recovers quickly as well :)

When I was using Megazorb for 18 months till about May this year I was buying 2 bags @ £7.99 a bag & I was getting 7 weeks out of them when I was just using the 2.5m x 1m run. The new Megazorb is in a different bag which feels lighter. The Megazorb itself is now much finer, almost like sharp sand & it has a horrible smell instead of the toasted smell it used to have. I only used the new Megazorb it in the run & 1m cage & I only got 2 weeks, this was spreading it thinner than I used to. With Megazorb & Auboise, I spread a thin layer of hay on top so that the piggies don't come in contact with it on their feet so when you look into the run it just looks like it's all hay.

Blimey - 3-4 months? I have a bluebell hutch from p&h, my Fitch lasts 5weeks, I clean out every other day any only replace the soiled stuff (total bedroom clean). I don't even think I put that much in.
