What I mean is how long are midwest cages good for before having to be replaced. I'm considering getting one as I found a good deal on the petco website. And I use kiln dried pine shavings that I air out atleast a week or more before use. Not saying that I don't like any of the other cages. Just a bit crunched for time and space to put together.

I have had mine for 2 weeks, so I can't say in terms of longevity, but the liner is canvas and I line it with puppy pads as I don't want pee going through to the canvas. The canvas can be wiped clean, but I'd always put an extra layer just to help preserve it a bit more. In terms of practicality, it's simple to put together and because the base is fabric, it's easy to take down, fold up the canvas and store/transport if required. My piggies are very young but the bars are spaced close enough that they won't be able to poke their heads through.

Also, the way the cage doors are set up, it's very easy to add and join another unit to it to expand the space. This was a big plus for me as it gives options for future expansion.

Hope this helps! :)

At this rate I am slowly going to be switching over to fleece, 1 or 2 pieces at a time. As I just got my washing machine an dryer hooked up at home. Cause I was hoping to get at least 2 years out of it, if not more. Then it would be worth it to me. But I definitely plan on using a layer underneath it.

The cage part is really robust, can't see how that'd wear out, I know in the UK you can buy replacement canvas liners if needed. But just by going on the quality of mine, I'd say it'd last way longer than 2 years :)

I am not sure where to look in the states. For the replacement liners that is. Normally any midwest cage I find is $45 and above. This afternoon found on sale for $37. Even without a lid I have grids I can use for the lid.

I think Midwest have their own website (they do have a UK one, I didn't buy mine from their site but I know they do replacement bits on it) so you could search that or try Amazon, eBay, etc. But you won't need a replacement liner for some time (if ever) unless you're really careless and never clean the cage out :)

I always like being prepared. Just in case anything happens. Cause I have kids, and they tend to ruin different things. Not all the time mind you.

Got my midwest cage yesterday. An so far I am loving it. As much as I love the idea of saving money. With both the c&c cage and the Midwest cage. Just a much faster set up I found, with the Midwest cage. Even with chaos around me. I can set it up in 5 minutes.

Just saw this thread.. With my previous group I had my midwest cages for two years and my current group have been in the cages for a year.. I use fleece bedding with puppy pads underneath and my cages are holding up really well. So we're at three years and going strong
