How long after (probiotics question)

How long after a 6 week anti biotic course should i continue with pro biotics? How long does it take the gut flora to recover, does anyone know?

Hmm interesting question. I usually stop probiotics when the antibiotics stop but then normally the course is only 7 days or so. The only exception to this was my Rainbow Piggy cutey pie Dennis who had a very nasty URI for 3 months so had different antibiotics to see which one worked best so was on probiotics too. In the end despite my and the vets best efforts his little body couldn't take it any more .......

I usually carry on for a few more days after the antibiotics finish.

Hi!

You stop it shortly after your piggy is back to normal in terms of eating and poo output, and the weight is stable/very much on the up.

Basically as long as it takes for any appetite loss or soft/small poo issues to recover plus about 1-3 days more, depending on the impact the antibiotic has had - from no impact at all to total loss of appetite from which it may take a while to bounce back if it has combined with the illness your piggy has been treated for. The worse the impact, the longer I would wait to make sure that your piggy is stable again.

Thanks, everyone - i just gave ebony the last of the bio lapis after stopping anti bs on sunday. Her weight is on the up, poos look good. She is still a snuffler with the breathing but she is active and lively so i think this is as good as she is going to get.
