Do you all have any tips on weighing your piggles? We know we are supposed to weigh them regularly but these days they are really too big for the kitchen scales - they tend to not look very stable and or just try to climb out in all directions. Do any more experienced pig owners have any top tips?

You can use a biscuit tin or container they fit in. Sit it on then tare the scales and pop them in. I bought a scale specifically to weigh them as I was using the kitchen ones. Hairs everywhere!

Thank you both.

@Piggies&buns the bathroom scales suggestion is a good one - the way our kitchen scales work balancing anything on them is a but precarious so having them in a box or cosy on the bathroom scales would feel much safer. Does anyone have any experience with whether human measuring scales are sufficiently accurate to measure little pigs.

I strongly doubt it. Try seeing if it gives you the same weight each time you get off and on them. Will it be accurate enough to show a 30g plus or minus? I doubt it!

I use a celebrations tub and sit them in a fleece tunnel on that. I tried with just the tub and they hopped straight out! 😂 A bit of parsley usually keeps them happy for long enough to get a quick reading

Ah, those puppy weighing scales look ideal. Plus we could keep the guineas away from the kitchen equipment which would probably be for the best!

Thats why i got them... didn't like using my kitchen ones for them! Not a bad price either and work well for us!

I have the puppy weighing scales too. I keep them in the garage where the piggies are. I have to weight 2 piggies every day to keep an eye on their weight as they both have arthritis in their backs. Christian has had it for just over a year and his sister Meg was diagnosed on Monday.

Excellent - thanks for this, scales purchased.
Sorry if I’ve missed it elsewhere, but is there a guide anywhere that suggests an ideal weight range by age? I’m thinking of the kind of thing you get when you have children with all the percentiles! Anyway, my two piggies are about 6 weeks old so I’d expect they’ll be expected to grow and put weight on weekly, just want to keep an eye on things so I know they’re doing so in a healthy manner.

Thank you both.

I don't think human weighing scales go down to 1kg or there abouts. You need a large flat kitchen scale. Salter do some good ones
