i know it s a daft question but the reason I'm asking is because ive noticed some people use fleeces in their cages something i never thought of before.
how i set up a cage is layer it with newspaper then wood shavings and straw in their bed area.
I'm interested to hear how others set them up;)

I'm a recent fleece convert and I love it!
I put a couple of sheets of newspaper, followed by puppy pads, then fleece. The fleece is attached to the sides of the cage-base with velcro to hold it in place.

I also have a litter tray which is lined with newspaper and then short chopped hay on top. I'm thinking about switching to megazorb once I've used up all the hay as I think it will last better between changes.

I love reorganising the cage, which is weird because housework for MY house leaves me cold! :))

Hmmm, i may have to convert to fleece myself, it just looks so snuggly and warm :))

My girls just have newspaper and hay and they love to burrow in the hay but after a couple of days they just flatten it down and with them being outside i feel a bit bad that they dont have something cosier to bed down in. Also they get through so much of it! Ive found a place that does it cheaply but still, it would make more sense to use re usable fleece rolleyes

Where does everyone get their fleece from? Bog standard cheepy or do you get it from special piggy places?

daleksarah sorry ive hijacked your thread a little bit oops :x

I am in the process of converting all cages to fleece (with newspaper and towels underneath) with a toilet corner with hay.

I find that though it needs cleaning more often, it's also a lot quicker to tidy and less messy - a consideration, as my pigies live in the living room!

Wood chips have the advantage of being more absorbent (especially the smells as well!) and I will keep the option open for those times I'm not around to clean out the piggies.

My girls live in a wooden hutch. I line the whole lot with news paper then in the sleeping area, I pack it with hay and in the living accommodation, I use a small amount of wood shavings (to absorb the pee) then hay on top of that so that piggies do not have direct contact with the shavings. They also have a dome that they can go in and when it gets to winter, I may get a snuggle cup xx

As long as it is 100% polyester I don't think it matters. I've got mine from ebay and also Dunelm Mill. I think people on here have found fleece blankets very cheaply in Ikea, Tesco and Asda as well.

Hi Sarah,

Personally I would not use straw at all - use hay. Straw is too coarse and can damage piggies eyes. Hay is much better all round in my opinion.

The boys are well. Let me know what you decide to go for Nero 4 or C &C.

Love Helen.

Outside piggies for me. On Newspaper, then a layer of megazorb, then a substantial layer of hay, that is added to every day. Then I just roll it all up and put it in my garden recycling bags twice a week. Using this method there is very rarely any wet going through to the base of the hutches, which is something I worry about because the boys are in pairs in a triple hutch and the last thing I need is wee wee dripping down on top of the lower pairs. :)>>>
